The next day, Calliope headed straight to the Jewell Group. She arrived at the office fairly early. Franco had just arrived as well, but Monty was nowhere to be seen, and Horatio hadn’t showed up either.
Calliope quickly dialed Monty’s number and gave him a good talking to, prompting him to rush to the office.
As she walked alongside Franco, they discussed some work–related matters. She looked every bit the professional. People in the company greeted her warmly as she passed.
“Hey, Calliope!”
“Why are you calling her that? She’s the Chairwoman now!”
“Morning, everyone,” Calliope replied with a nod and a smile. She had this aura about her that made people feel a certain distance, yet there was an approachable warmth that drew them in, instilling both admiration and a touch of reverence.
“Ms. Jewell, I took home some of the food you ordered from the Pearl Tiger Club yesterday. My wife said it was delicious. Thank you!”
“Yeah, my daughter loved it too. Thank you! It’s something we could never afford on our own. Just for that meal, I’ll work harder than ever for this company!”
“Same here! Thanks, Ms. Jewell!”
“I promise I won’t slack off anymore. I’ll be more diligent from now on!”
Calliope smiled and said, “As long as everyone works hard, there’ll be opportunities for more treats in the future. Not just treats, but also some hefty bonuses waiting for you all. Rest assured, the company’s benefits will only keep improving!”
Hearing Calliope’s words, everyone felt a surge of excitement. It was clear they were filled with newfound confidence.
Never before had they experienced such perks, which kept motivation low. But now, with Calliope at the helm, they genuinely wished well for the company.
They knew Calliope was a woman of her word. She wasn’t the type to make empty promises. The food from the Pearl Tiger Club was pricey, yet she treated them and even packed some to go. So, any future rewards would surely be equally genuine.
Realizing this, everyone felt even more inclined to put in their best effort.
After discussing a few more things with Franco, the elevator reached their office floor.
Calliope entered her office. She was pleasantly surprised to see the office had been revamped. The space had undergone a simple transformation to match her style.
She figured Monty and the others presumably had a hand in this. It wasn’t surprising; she knew they were trying to curry favor. Regardless of their motivations, at least they were trying to make her comfortable.
After settling in and working for a bit, Monty and Horatio finally arrived, and she convened a meeting with the upper management.
The execs were well aware of Calliope’s competence by now. No one dared oppose her, except for a few who had been demoted or fired, and were clearly displeased. Those who hadn’t been affected were cautious, fearing Calliope’s wrath, and thus were on their best behavior.
“Calliope, who do you think you are, firing me like this!”
“My son has done nothing wrong. He’s been nothing but diligent. Why should he be fired?”
“Monty, look at the mess your useless daughter is making. Aren’t you going to do something?”
