Chapter 24

Quentin and 1

The only thing that divided us was our principles, We clashed on what the aim of real journalism was. I wanted to use it as a means of reporting the truth and promoting authenticity

Quentin only saw it as a means to make money, and it was pretty clear what lengths he’d go to in order to get that

We often clashed because of our philosophical differences, even arguing about it time and time again

just don’t see why you’d think that’s the only thing that matters when it comes to media. My voice was rising with each passing second

Iated arguing with Quentin. It left me feeling drained and hurt at the same time. His face was contorted in anger as he argued back

Does it look I care? The end justifies the means. What does it matter if I put money first, huh?”

I stared at him, stunned that he’d actually said those words. There were some things that wouldn’t change no matter how hard you tried. Quentin’s mentality was one of them

Quentin-”

He cut me off before I could continue. No need to play, Melanie. You have your principles and I have mine.”

You’re unbelievable.I said, my voice barely above a whisper

Without another word, I stormed out of the room, fighting back the tears that prickled my eyes. It wasn’t until I stumbled into Jack that I realized I was already crying

What’s wrong, Melanie? He asked, a look of worry in his eyes

Maybe it was the gravity of the situation, or maybe I was just tired, but I ended up spilling everything to him

He made sure to listen attentively, giving me the entirety of his attention. When I was done speaking, he cleared his throat

I understand how you feel, Melanie. And just so you know, I support your ideals and principles. Authenticity should take precedence over anything

else.”

Khowing that he had the same ideals as me made a warm feeling bloom in my chest. It felt good to have someone in my corner, someone who was supporting what I stood for

Thank you, Jack.I smiled. Means a lot to hear this from you.”

That was what lead to me choosing Jack. A decision I didn’t know would have a load of painful consequences

I turned back to my mobile phone, not realizing there was a frown on my face. From the corner of my eyes, I could still see Askhan’s eyes carefully watching me

Are you still upset? He asked. If it’s about the news, don’t worry about it. I’ll make sure I deal with every single one of them.”

I turned off the phone and set it aside. It’s okay. None of that matters now.”

He nodded his head and sank back into his seat, his eyes flicking to me every now and then. Haelor was more focused on talking to the man flying the helicopter but I would notice his gaze on me once in a while

After a while, I could see the outline of what looked like estate. When I peered out the window, it confirmed what I’d been suspecting

Askhan had a look of surprise and excitement as he followed my gaze to outside the window. After looking out for some time, he turned back to me

This is awesome.He smiled

I leaned my head to the side. What is?”

Chapter 24

Your brothers are preparing a grand lavender display for you. I can’t think of anything more exciting right now

I raised an eyebrow, wondering why I didn’t smell anything. Then it hit me

I didn’t have any connection to the wolves so my own sense of smell was more or less deteriorating. Things that they would be able to pick up world be seemingly impossible for me because of that

A werewolf was supposed to have an excellent sense of smell and hearing. Now, I’d lost every single one of those abilities

Trying to calm down was out of the question as I could feel myself spiralling with each passing second

Sounds like it’ll be lots of fun.I smiled at Askhan

He returned it, oblivious to the inner turmoil I was feeling. When I shut my eyes, it felt like I was falling into an infinite pool of pure darkness with no

her to keep me sane

It scared me

Get ready for landing. The pilot said through his microphone

Slowly, the helicopter began to descend to the ground. I could get a closer view of the estate now through the windows

The whole place had been properly decorated, the visual appealing more obvious and giving an aesthetic vibe

My brothers had pulled all stops just for, this occasion. Lining the pathways to the estate were lavender flowers, groomed just for the occasion Askhan held out a hand for me and helped me off the plane. The three of us walked down the path that had been carpeted out for us

I couldn’t help but stare in awe of all the flowers that had been laid out for us. There was a crowd of people flanking each sides of the carpet

As I made my way down the path, they clapped their hands in applause and cheer. I smiled back, waving my hands in response to their cheers

Mommy.”

The smile on my face widened as I saw Emma waving at me. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed her until now

Hi baby.I said, unable to hold back my excitement

She must have been waiting all day for you.Askhan commented by my

side

My smile dimmed just a little when I noted a familiar face in the crowd. She had an unnerving glint in her eyes as she approached Emma. It was hard to miss the hypocritical look on her face
