Chapter 79
The tension in the room was so thick that a knife could have probably cut through it. They were both dominant alphas who weren’t afraid to contend with anybody, whoever it may
- be.
It was no surprise that they weren’t exactly fond of each other. Seconds ticked by and I could feel the spark of chaos roaming the air.
“Got a problem with that?” Quentin leaned his head to the side.
For a moment, I wondered if Askhan was going to lash out at the billionaire. Some more tension–filled seconds passed before Askhan turned his gaze back to me.
It felt like I could finally breathe again for some reason. The look in Askhan’s eyes spoke volumes. He probably didn’t want to let me go but he knew he had no other choice in this, especially since I had clearly made mine.
“Alright, then.” Olavir blew out a breath. “I’ll have them get your room ready for you.
A small smile cracked on my face as I turned my gaze to the ceiling. Home. It had been quite some time since I was there. I couldn’t wait.
The flight home was more peaceful than I’d initially expected it to be. I closed my eyes and leaned it against the window as various thoughts rushed through my head.
A content smile left my lips when I finally entered the large expanse that was my home It felt good to finally be back, the calm after a long raging storm.
I turned my gaze to the wounds on my arms. Those silver bullets had turned out to be more dangerous than I’d expected it to be. The pain still racked through my arm when I moved my fingers but it wasn’t as painful as before. My wolf was doing a pretty good job of healing
me up nicely.
“What happened when I collapsed?” I asked Olavir.

“The men who had attacked the club weren’t wolves.” He blew out a breath.
‘My eyes widened. “They weren’t?”
Olavir shook his head. “They were orcs. I don’t know how they did it but somehow, they smuggled themselves past the borders and into the kingdom. Their main reason for being there was to assassinate Askhan. If they had succeeded back then, it would have no doubt lead to chaos. Then they’d use that chance to grab all our resources.”
“Wow.” I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Except, my brother would never lie to
me for no reason.
know,” he sighed. “If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what would have happened to
Askhan.”
His face brightened with a small smile. “You were really brave, Melanie. It takes a really courageous person to do what you did for Askhan. You protected the royal prince and ended stopping what would have been the spark of a really huge war.”
I couldn’t help but smile at his words. It felt good been praised by my brother. I wanted to
tell him about what had happened before the attack.
What I’d seen back then was like a vision. It had predicted the exact thing that would have
happened to Askhan had I not stepped in.
“Olavir, so-”
The door swung open and a servant entered the room. The man bowed his head before finally speaking.
“General Haelor is at the manor, sir. He has come to visit Princess Melanie. And he bears a
lot of gifts too.”
My eyes widened in surprise. I didn’t think Haelor would actually come all the way here. He had mention something about heading back to the border.
“What is he doing here?” I asked the servant curiously.

“He said you were very weak and needed care. And that’s why he decided to come here.” The servant explained.
All through the time where he’d served at the army, I’d always thought it had hardened him, made him incapable of showing emotions or at the very least, averse to them.
What I hadn’t expected was for Haelor to always have that part of him still there. Emotionally simple with a hint of shyness in his character.
I didn’t know how long he would remain like this or if this was something specific to me. Olavir was still staring at me expectantly, waiting for whatever I would decide to accept.
“Okay,” I sent the servant a nod. “You may leave.”
As soon as the servant shut the door, I threw the blankets off myself and began making my way out of the room.
“So eager to see him?” Olavir teased.
I sent him an unamused look. “There’s something I need to handle.”
With that, I slammed the door shut behind me and began racing through the hallways. I had to find Jane by all means.
“Jane.” I yelled out when I saw the outline of her figure.
She managed to slip pass me before I could catch up with her. Then suddenly, her annoying
voice popped into my head.
“Dear Alpha, no need to thank me. I know what you’ve been hiding all along. You’ve regained your wolf abilities back. And I know why you did it.”
“What are you talking about?” I tried to sound calm but my mind was racing with different
thoughts.
“It’s pretty obvious why you hid it. You did so because you wanted Haelor to protect you.”
