Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Back in Los Angeles, my team kept my whereabouts secret. Even with Alexander’s extensive connections, he couldn’t locate me.
At the “Twilight’s Edge” press conference, I spotted a familiar face in the audience. Alexander’s eyes blazed with intensity as he watched me.
I’d expected this day would come. Knowing his pride, I assumed he wouldn’t make a scene in front of the
media.
I underestimated his desperation.
During the Q&A, he somehow got hold of a microphone. He approached the stage, his eyes filled with desperate hope:
“Evelyn, you’re finally back.”
“Let’s pretend none of this happened. Start over. You must love me–we shared seven years together. We even planned to have a child this year.”
Ryan, noting my expression, intervened politely: “Sir, this is a film press conference. Please keep questions related to the movie.”
Alexander ignored him, focusing solely on me. “Evelyn, I know you’re angry. That’s why I’m here to apologize publicly.”
“Nothing happened between Claire and me. Yes, I admired her when we were younger, so I helped her career… But after marrying you, I fell in love with you. You must have felt my love these past years!”
I laughed bitterly. “Alexander, look carefully. I’m Evelyn, not Claire’s substitute.”
“Save your performance for the cameras. Stop pretending with me.”
“Can you even tell if you’re fighting for love or just your wounded pride? You just can’t stand someone leaving you first.”
During my months filming in isolation, I’d carefully analyzed our relationship. His feelings for me were genuine, just as his resentment over Claire choosing James was real.
But that resentment had poisoned everything.
Now, love or not, it didn’t matter anymore.

My feelings for him had completely evaporated.
“Evelyn, I was wrong.” Alexander pleaded. “Come home. I’ll never interfere with your career again. I’ll give you the best opportunities, support your every move.”
“Whatever you want to do, I’ll back you completely!”
I shook my head. “Alexander, I’m not Claire,”
“And I never take second chances.”
These words might have once moved me to tears. Not anymore.
Alexander’s belated devotion meant nothing to me now.
While I’d moved on, Claire hadn’t. She suddenly appeared, hysterically grabbing Alexander:
“Why are you saying these things to her? I’m the one you love!”
Alexander shoved her away, disgusted. “Get out! You’re the reason Evelyn left me!”
