“What?” She spits.
“You’re my sister and I love you. But if you keep fucking with my best friend, I swear to God. I’ll fuck you up.”
“Windora!” Dad shouts before I spin on my heel and walk out of the room.
“I’ll be at Uncle Max’s.”

“Do you like Winnie?”
The question makes me snap my eyes away from the sparkling water of the lake to Adonis puppy eyes instead. “What?”
“Because if you do. I’ll back off.”

“Why didn’t you tell me you liked her?” He groans. “I wouldn’t have gotten close to her if I knew. That like, goes against the bro
code.”
I watch him with raised eyebrows as he rambles on.

“Yo, Doni, chill.” I cut him off, slapping my hand over his mouth. He slaps my hand away and looks at me expectantly. “Yeah. I did like her. For three years. But that was when I first moved here. I don’t like her anymore. Honestly, it’d be kinda weird if I did. She’s like my sister. You don’t need to back off or anything, dude.”
Adonis still looks a bit unsure. “You sure?”
“Yeah, man” I give him a smile before raising my eyebrow at him suggestively. “And why would you getting close to her go against the bro code, huh?”

looks away from me, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink. “Come on, man. Don’t make me say it.”
“Say what? I’m not making you say anything” I loop an arm around his neck and bring him into a headlock
“Flynn!” He whines.
“Nah, come on,” I grin as I rub my knuckles against the top of his head. “Say it.“.
He stops struggling for a moment. “Uncle?”
I roll my eyes. “No, asshole. The other thing”
“What other thing?”
I stare down at him blankly before I resume giving him a noogle.

1 immediately let him go. He sits up and pouts at me, smoothing his hair down.
“I knew it.” I grin widely at him and he shoves me, biting back his own grin.
“It’s not like it was a secret.”
“I know, I just get a special joy out of torturing you.” I tell him.
“Damm, didn’t take you as a sadist.” He remarks, laughing loudly as I shove him back.
“Shut up.” I chuckle.

“she’s been acting all different for a while now and it’s not like she can use mom’s death as a reason because mom died when we were seven and she didn’t start acting like this ‘til Luke. I almost broke her fucking face, man!” I rant to Kamri as I lie on her bed, a pillow clenched in my grip.
“Well. I don’t know what to say. You guys will be back to normal in about three days.” Kamri shrugs, my head in her lap as she runs her hands through my hair.
“I think you should go check on Flynn.” Mia suggests from her spot at Kamri’s desk as she rolls back and forth in the wheely
chair.
I shoot up, looking around the room for my car keys. “Oh, shit, you’re right!”
Mia is already one step ahead of me, tossing me my keys. I smile gratefully before kissing her cheek and running out, ruffling. Kam’s hair on the way.
“Use protection!”
“We’re lesbians!” Kamri shouts back at me.
“Doesn’t mean you can’t get an STD!”
“What the fuck are you talking about?!” Uncle Max pokes his head out of the kitchen as I run past and throw the front door

“Sweetie, don’t act like you and the boys didn’t have weird conversations like that in front of Tanya.” I hear Aunt Megan retort as I shut the door.

As I approach the lake, I spot the backs of two familiar boys sitting at the edge of the wharf, feet dipped into the water.
“Hey!” I shout, making my way down the dirt trail. They both look over their shoulders and smile when they see me. I then. hold a paper bag in the air and wave it around asl reach the two of them. “I got ice cream!”
“And-”
I cut Adonis off while reaching into the bag and tossing him a container. “And my mum’s famous chocolate chip cookies.”
Adonis grins and stands up, staring down at me. “I guess there is a reason as to why I tolerate you.”
I scoff and put my palm on his face, pushing his head away. “Moment ruined. Great going.”

“Couldn’t care less.” He reaches up and shoves my head away in return. “I’m gonna go. I’ll see you guys later. Probably at school on Monday.”
“Doni, you don’t have to go.” Flynn tells him and Adonis just shrugs with a crooked grin.
“No, I do. You two need to talk.” He ruffles Flynn’s hair and turns to me, holding his fist up between us.
1 raise an eyebrow at him and he nods down at his hand expectantly.
1 slowly bump my own fist against his and he smiles kind of awkwardly before turning around and making his way back down the wharf and up the trail.
