Chapter 48
“God, I love you.” I slip out before my eyes snap open and I abruptly stop laughing.
Noah stares at me with wide eyes.
I curse myself as I quickly stand up.
“Carter-
“Last night was a mistake.” I blurt out, cutting him off. “You need to leave. I can’t-”
“I love you, too, you arse.” He cuts me off, also standing up. “I know you’re scared and I know why you want me to leave. But I’m not leaving because I love you and nothing you say is going to change that.”
“But I’m dyi-”
“Carter, I swear to god if you finish that sentence I’m going to punch you in the face.” He states. “I know you think not being with me is going to make things easier, but it’s going to hurt just as much. It doesn’t matter if we’re together
or not.”
He right.
I want to kiss him.
I’m going to kiss him.
I smile slightly as I lean up and connect our lips.
He pulls away after a minute, hugging me tightly as he swallows thickly. “How long?”
I shrug, hugging him tighter. “Not long.”
He sighs pulling away. “I’ll be right back.”
He runs into the kitchen. I hear him shuffling around for a bit before he comes back and stands in front of me with his hands behind his back.
“Remember that time you told me you trusted me?” He questions
“Look, I’ve made the decision to trust you-”
“A horrible decision, really.”
I raise an eyebrow at him. “Yeah, you told me it was a horrible decision.”
He purses his lips. “Yeah, well, it still is.”
I furrow my eyebrows slightly. “That’s nice.”

“But I’m going to need you to trust me right now.”
“Pebble, I trust you more than anyone.”
He nods before pulling his arms from behind his back and holding up an Eggo. I almost laugh.
“Be my girlfriend?” He asks nervously.
“I-” I open my mouth, ready to say no.
“Nevaeh, it doesn’t make a difference if you’re dating or not. You’re an important part of his life and he loves you.”
“I know, but it’ll hurt less if he moves on.”
“No. Vaeh. It’s going to hurt just as much.”
“Okay.”
“Okay?” He repeats.
“Okay.” I smile softly before scrunching up my face. “Did we really just make a “The Fault in our Stars‘ reference?”
“Thank god!” He shoves the warm waffle in my mouth and hugs me tightly. “And yes, I think we did.”
“FINALLY!”
Slap.
“OW!”
Noah and I look over to the door of the dorm and see Max, Dylan and Megan peeking inside, Max rubbing his head with a pout on his face.
And in the words of Summer–Storm,
Novah.
-Nevaeh-
“Pebble?”
“Yeah, Carter?”
“Do you want kids?” I ask from my position on his chest,
“With you?” He hums. “Sure.”
I roll my eyes, smiling lightly. “In general.”
He thinks for a moment before replying. “Of course. Two baby girls. One with your eyes and one with your dimples.”

“Stop it. I don’t like soft Noah.” I joke, grinning.
“You love soft Noah.” He grins, moving his hand from my back to my shoulders and hugging me.
I smile up at him. “And what would you name your two baby girls?”
“Windora and Octavia.” He says immediately. “Windora would be called Winnie for short.”
I sit up and stare down at him. “As in…?”
He sits up too, smiling softly. “Yeah, Carter, as in your sisters.”
I wrap my arms around him, hugging him tightly. “You’d be an amazing father.”
He hugs my waist tightly. “I’d be a better father than mine was.”
I swallow before pulling away.
“Noah…you never really told me what happened with your father.” I admit, making him sigh. “Obviously you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
“No, you should know.” He says. “It’s kind of a three–in–one. You’re going to find out what happened to my brother and why Max, Dylan and I went to juvie.”
He hasn’t mentioned his brother since that night in the cemetery.
“Noah,” I run my hand through his hair. “You don’t have to tell me.”
“Sit down and get comfortable because this is a long story.” He tells me.
-Noah-
(Flashback)
“King, where the hell are Anthony, Max and Dylan?” My football coach yells, walking up to me while the rest of the team finishes warm up.
I shrug. “Don’t know, Coach.”
Coach grumbles incoherently as he walks away.
I walk over to my bag and pull out my phone before calling Anthony.
No answer.
I then call Max.
No answer.
I call Dylan.
Chapter 48
No answer.
What the hell?
liv.
I bite my lip nervously, a bad feeling instantly settling in my stomach.
They always answer.
All of a sudden, Max rushes onto the field and starts dragging me away.
“Max. what the hell?!” I shout as he pulls me through the school and to the parking lot. “Max, stop!”
I pull my arm out of his grasp, making him turn around.
My face drops when I see his bloodshot eyes and the tears streaming down his face.
“Anthony,” He starts, his voice wobbly. “He–He was shot.”
My eyes widen and it feels like everything is crumbling down around me.
