Chapter 55
I raise my eyebrows, a small smile on my face. “Okay.”
“Noah’s probably going to kill me for it, but it’ll be so worth it!”
Max runs into my room holding an ice pack to his nose and his phone in his other hand.
I furrow my brows, looking at his nose. “Wha-”
“I got it on video!” He yells, cutting me off.
He quickly kicks his shoes off and gets in the bed, holding his phone in front of us.
Dylan gets out of the shower and as soon as he looks up he sees a life size cardboard cut out of Gollum sitting on the vanity.
He lets out a high pitched, girly scream. He rushes to run out of the bathroom, but forgets the door is locked and runs straight into the door. He quickly gets up and throws the door open only to come face to face with Max dressed as the Grim Reaper.
“NOAH!” Dylan yells in a shrill voice, forgetting that Noah wasn’t even in the dorm as he stumbles
back and falls on his ass.
I laugh loudly.
“And now Noah’s turn.” Max visibly deflates.
Noah steps into the bathroom, towel in hand. He looks up and comes face to face with the Gollum cut
out.
“Oh wow, how terrifying.” He says sarcastically in a bored tone.
He turns around and opens the bathroom door and comes face to face with the Max Reaper.
“HERE’S JOHNNY!” Max shouts making Noah shoot his fist out and punch Max right in the face.
I try to stifle my laugh but fail miserably as I look over at Max who has a pout on his face.
“Aw, poor Maxie.” I say between laughs, patting his cheek. “At least he didn’t kill you.”
“You know,” Max starts as we sit on my bed watching Friends on his computer. “You and Noah are

the Mondler of our time.”
I chuckle. “What?”
“It’s true.” He shrugs as the episode finishes. “You’re unproblematic, perfect and completely in love. I wouldn’t be surprised if you two decided to get married right here, right now.”
That doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
Shut up, I don’t need a Pablo. Noah already has one.
I look at the time on his computer.
“Visiting hours end in a few minutes.” He voices my thoughts. “I should get going. Megan will come by sometime tomorrow and Noah has you the whole day on Friday.”
I give him a small smile. “Bye, Max.”
He kisses my cheek as he gets all his stuff. “Bye, Dimples.”
-Nevach-
“Heyooo!” Megan chirps as she walks into the room with a box in one hand and a plastic bag in the
other.
I eye the box. “Is…is that an Easy–Bake oven?”
“Yup.” She confirms cheerfully, dragging the food tray over, taking the Easy–Bake oven out of the box and putting it in front of me before pouring the contents of the plastic bag out.
“Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate chip cookie, Cheese pizza, Chocolate truffles, Chocolate and creme cake, Party Pretzel dippers.” I raise an eyebrow as I look through the mixes. “What’re we going to do, have a tea party with fucking Annabelle?”
“We do not bring that creepy doll up.” Megan points a finger at me. “That movie scared the doo–doo
out of me.”
“Doo–doo.” I mutter under my breath in amusement.
“Yes, doo–doo.” She emphasises. “Don’t judge me.”
I chuckle under my breath, putting my hands up in surrender. “Not judging.”
“Good.” She kicks her shoes off and carefully climbs in bed next to me. “Time to Easy–Bake!”

“Wait, Vaeh, don’t to-”
“Ah! Fuck, shit, fuck!”
“-uch that.” She trails off. “It’s-”
“Fucking hot.” I put my finger in my mouth. “Why didn’t you stop me from touching the damn tray?”
“I tried!” She defends herself. “You’re just an idiot.”
I pout. “Rude.”
“Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
“Uh, Meg?”
“Yeah?”
“I think you overcooked these.” I point down at the chocolate chips cookies.
“What? No, I didn’t.” She shakes her head.
I raise a challenging eyebrow before picking one up and banging it against the edge of the food tray.
It creates a knocking sound.
“Okay, maybe I overcooked it.”
“No shit.” I roll my eyes, a small smile on my face before I sigh. “Meg?”
“Yeah, Vaeh?”
“I know what three songs I want played at my funeral”
She looks at me seriously. “No, don’t talk like that. You’re not dying.”
“Well, it’s happening whether we like it or not.” I tell her.
She sighs. “What three songs?”
“Let Her Go by Passenger, If I Die Young by The Band Perry, and the New Zealand national anthem.”
I list off.

“Those aren’t really funeral songs.” She whispers, her eyes getting glassy.
I shrug. “Let Her Go is to tell people to not mourn my death and let me go, the New Zealand national anthem is just because I’m from New Zealand, and If I Die Young is…well, I just like that song.”
“Nevaeh…”
“Megan, I love you.” I tell her. “Thank you for being my best friend from the moment I moved here four years ago, and thank you for having my back. Thank you for everything. I love you so much,
Meg.”
She hugs me, tears sliding down her cheeks. “Thank you for being the strongest person I know. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thank you for being my best friend. I love you, Vaeh.”
