Chapter 67
“You’re stupid.” I mutter childishly.
“You’re stupid.” She shoots back as I slip on my black skinny jeans which cut off a couple inches above my ankles.
She plugs in the blowdryer and starts drying her hair as I put on a simple white t–shirt, rolling up the sleeves a couple times before tucking it into my jeans.
Octavia finishes drying her hair and looks at the two of us in the mirror.
“We are the definition of ‘same difference‘.” She points out making me nod in agreement.
“Yup.”
She unplugs the dryer and puts it away before we make our way downstairs and into the kitchen where dad is preparing lasagna.
“Need any help?” We ask dad in unison.
“From Winnie? No, I’m alright, thanks.” He smiles. “From Octavia? Never.”
“Why do you have to bully me all the time?” She throws him an offended look as I laugh loudly.
“Because you can’t cook.” He states simply, putting the lasagna in the oven.
“Or drive.” I add.
“You guys are so mean to me.” She complains, pouting as she takes a seat at the island.
I chuckle before walking into the living room and taking a seat on the couch. I turn the T.V on and flip through the channels before settling on a rerun of Friends.
“WE WERE ON A BREAK!” Ross yells at Rachel.
“Huh, now I know where uncle Dylan’s ex got his excuse from.” I mumble.
Octavia walks into the living room and changes the channel to Gilmore Girls, taking a seat next to me.
“Bro, what the hell?” I glare at her. “I was watching that!”

She shrugs. “Don’t care.”
“Oh, you don’t care?” I laughs dryly. “Would you care if I shoved the remote up your a ”
I’m cut off by the doorbell ringing.
“Someone get the door!” Dad’s voice comes from the kitchen.
When Octavia doesn’t move, I groan and stand up, rolling my eyes.
“Don’t rush to get the door. I’ve got it. You don’t have to worry. Just sit and relax.” I drone sarcastically.
“Thanks.” She waves me off, her eyes focused on the T.V.
I huff as I roll my eyes, walking to the front door and opening it.
Standing there, is a tall, good looking guy around 23 or 24 with black hair, a slight stubble and dark brown eyes. He looks kind of like…wait.
My eyes trail over to see Adonis staring at me with a look that says ‘you’ve got to be kidding me‘.
“Hey, look, it’s another Adonis.” I grin at them, making the older guy chuckle as I open the door wider. “Hey, you laughed. I like you better than your brother already. Come in. Adonis, stay out
there.”
“Thank you. Everybody like me better than my brother.” He smiles down at me as he and Adonis step inside. “I’m Braeden.”
“I’m Winnie.” I grin, shaking his hand as Octavia stands up, turning the T.V off as before she walks over shyly. “This is my dumb sister, Octavia. She’s three and a half minutes older.”
“Best three and a half minutes of my life.” She mumbles, making Braeden laugh.
“She stole my face.” I ignore her. “Dad’s in the kitchen, I’ll go get him.”
“How did I steal your face when I’m older?” Octavia calls after me, following me to the kitchen.
I shrug. “Logic.”
“What kind of logic is that?”
“My logic.” I tell her, hearing Braeden laugh again.

“Yeah, your bullshit logic.” Octavia rolls her eyes as we walk into the kitchen.
“Your hot, new police officer recruit is here.” I tell dad without thinking before my eyes widen.
Dad snaps his head to me. “What did you just say?”
“Nothing!” I rush out as I quickly start making my way out of the kitchen. “Braeden’s here! Bye!”
“Winnie!”
“Nice, Winnie.” Octavia laughs at me as I walk past her in the kitchen doorway.
I glare at her before making my way back to the living room.
I hear Braeden say something to Adonis. “Dude, is that the girl you were complaining about?”
“Yup.” I hear Adonis mumble back.
“Aww, you talk about me?” I tease as I walk over to them. “How adorable.”
Adonis rolls his eyes. “Complaining about you and talking about you are two different things.”
“They’re really not.” I grin at him. “My name came out of your mouth. That sounded dirty. Don’t care. Either way, you were talking about my amazing self.”
Braeden laughs loudly. “Dude, I don’t care what you say. I like her.”
-Winnie-
“Hi, Braeden.” Dad greets as he walks out of the kitchen, throwing me a glare before it slowly forms into a smirk. “So I’ve just learned that my daughter thinks you’re a–and I quote, “hot, new police
recruit.”
Braeden laughs. “Really?”
I purse my lips before pointing at my sister. “It was Octavia.”
Octavia immediately starts to protest. “It was not me!”
“It was Winnie.” Dad nods over at me. “Also known as the one with no filter.”
“Wow, thanks for throwing me under the bus, father.” I grumble sarcastically.
“She just ‘father’ed‘ you.” Octavia laughs.

“Looks like someone’s got a little crush.” Braeden teases.
“Yeah, but not on you. Adonis.” I say without thinking as I shrug before my eyes go wide and I peek at dad, who’s eye twitches.
