Chapter 84
“We love you, mama.” Octavia and I chorus.
“I love you, too.” She kisses our heads. “But next time you want to watch the sunrise at six in the morning, wake your dad.”
I snap out of my thoughts as my phone rings. I look at the caller ID.
Flynn Rider.
I answer the call, bringing the phone to my ear as another yawn escapes my lips.
“You woke up at the asscrack of dawn, too?” I question, chuckling silently at the incoherent grumbles coming from the other end of the phone.
“Yeah, for some dumbass reason.” Flynn whines, finally being able to form a proper sentence. “Can I come over for breakfast? There’s no food in the house again.”
I may not have my mother around anymore, but at least I have a great father. Flynn, on the other hand, sucky parents. According to Flynn, they were the best, until they moved here. I don’t know what happened, but they’re never home. When they are, they don’t pay the slightest bit of attention to their only child. I mean, they pay the bills, but that’s about it. There’s never any food in the house, they never call to check up. Dad may act like he hates Flynn, but really, he’d die for him. He knows about his living situation but can’t do anything about it because they haven’t done anything legally wrong.
“Of course.” I say without a thought. “Waffles?”
“Chocolate chip?” I can hear his hopeful tone and I chuckle softly. I’d actually die for this fool.
“Yeah, dude. Chocolate chip.”
“You making waffles?” I hear Octavia’s tired voice from the kitchen doorway.
“Yeah.” I answer, scooping more batter into the waffle maker. “Flynn’s coming over for breakfast.”
“Now?” She yawns as she walks over and pours herself a cup of coffee, leaning on the counter next to me as she sips it, also still in her pyjamas. “It’s seven in the morning.”
“He woke up at the asscrack of dawn for some dumbass reason.” I tell her, taking a sip from my own cup of coffee. “I did too.”
She hums, finishing her coffee and pouring herself another cup. “Sooo, Adonis?”
“What about him?” I ask as I take the freshly made waffle out and replace it with more batter.
“You two seem to be getting pretty close.” She states slyly, sipping her coffee.
I roll my eyes, knowing what she’s getting at.
“Oh, yeah, he’s the man of my dreams and we’re getting married next week. Joey Tribbiani is going to be the priest and the Jonas Brothers are going to perform.” I tell her, smiling sarcastically.
“I mean, I was just going to ask if you like him, but thanks for going the extra two miles.” She mumbles, finishing her second cup of coffee before pouring a third.
“I do like him. He’s adorable.” I shrug, taking the waffle out before poring more batter in.

“No!” She groans. “Not like that!”
“Then how?” I raise an eyebrow at her, taking another sip of my coffee,
“Like–like”
“Like like?”
“Yeah.”
“What?”
“Do you like like him?”
“Like like who?”
“Adonis.”
“What about Adonis?”
“Do you like like him?!”
“Like like? What are you? Five?” I scoff.
“Winnie!”
“What?”
“Do you like oh my god, you’re useless!” She exclaims, putting her mug in the sink and stalking out of the kitchen and up the stairs in annoyance. “I’m hanging out with Luke today!”
I chuckle to myself, replacing the waffle with more batter.
And that’s how you get out of answering that question and annoying your sister.
“Slow down before you choke and die.” I thump Flynn on the head as he shovels a forkful of waffles into his mouth.
I grab my own plate and sit down next to him at the island.
“Bye, Flynn!” Octavia’s voice yells from the front door. “Bye, stupid!”
Flynn mumbles out a bye through his mouthful of waffle.
“Later, bitchass!” I call back, hearing the door open then shut.
“Where’s she going?” Flynn asks me.
“She’s hanging out with Lucas today.”
He give me a blank look. “Seriously?”
I smile sweetly at him. “Don’t be jealous. You can always hang out with your boyfriend.”
“Adonis isn’t my boyfriend!”
“I never said I was talking about Adonis, idiot.”
