Chapter 338
Alice turned at the familiar voice and saw Jack walking towards her across the lawn. The lights illuminated his sharp features. His arrival drew attention; he was a highly sought–after bachelor. Rumors of his broken engagement with the Garcia family heiress had everyone buzzing.
Jack reached
Alice, his gaze soft.“Sorry I’m late.” Alice was speechless.
Whispers rippled through the crowd.“Is the girlfriend Master Wilson mentioned the Windham heiress?”
“Yes! I heard his girlfriend was a gamer streamer.”
“I thought it was just a rumor!”
Alice remained silent. Jack, standing beside her, addressed Mrs. Parker. “My girlfriend was here with an invitation to her friend’s birthday party. Mrs. Parker tried to throw her out. Is there a misunderstanding?”
Mrs. Parker hadn’t expected Jack to be here. Wasn’t he supposed to be at the hospital with his grandmother? She forced a smile. “Mr. Wilson, you misunderstand.”
“Mrs. Parker, please clarify,” Jack said coldly, ready to defend Alice. Mrs. Parker hadn’t expected Jack to publicly acknowledge Alice as his girlfriend.
Mrs. Parker stammered, “There’s no misunderstanding. I welcome all invited guests.” “But I heard you ordering her to leave. There must be a reason,” Jack pressed, his gaze unwavering.
Mrs. Yates stepped in “Mr. Wilson, don’t press Mrs. Parker. The Windhams made a fool of themselves. Some people have the nerve to stay after that?” She was furious. Chloe’s clinginess to Her son had caused this mess. She hated the Windhams and Alice. They’d all latch onto rich men.
Mrs. Parker sighed, “I had no choice. I couldn’t disrupt the party.”
“My girlfriend has severed ties with the Windhams. Their actions don’t reflect on her,” Jack_ stated, having learned about the events. He suspected Alice was behind the leaked video, but the Windhams had brought it on themselves.
Mrs. Parker remained silent. But Mrs. Yates persisted.“Mr. Wilson, you’ve been fooled. That Windham girl was all over my son in the restroom, trying to climb the social ladder. Shouldn’t you be suspicious?”
Jack looked at her coldly.“Mrs. Yates, I have a question: Does Mr. Yates always undress himself?”
Mrs. Yates’s face turned crimson. Laughter erupted.
Alice glanced at Jack. Had he taken a poison pill for his tongue?
Mrs. Yates, enraged, continued. “The Windham girl seduced my son first. They’re scheming; the brother marries into the Parkers, one sister hooks up with my son, and another with you. If successful, the Windhams would rise în society.”
Jack said coldly, Mrs. Yates is wrong again. I’m not pursuing Alice; I’m pursuing “her“,”
Alice choked. He was so bold!
Mrs. Yates was speechless but continued, “They’re all Windhams. They’re poorly raised and
uncouth.”
Alice countered, Chloe was adopted, not my parents‘ daughter
It’s the same,” Mrs. Yates retorted.
It’s very different,” Jack said, his voice colder. My girlfriend’s parents only raised her, not Chloe. It’s like if Mr. Yates had a lovechild – he wouldn’t be your son. Is that the same?” The mention of an illegitimate child caused Mrs. Yates’s face to change. She didn’t want to publicize it.
“Yes, yes, it’s different. It’s different when you have a man to protect you,” Mrs. Yates sneered, ‘unwilling to lose.
Jack’s eyes turned icy. Perhaps Mrs. Yates should reflect. Why doesn’t Mr. Yates protect you? Is it because you tried to harm his lovechild and arranged a car accident to kill him?” Mr. Yates, who’d been silent, burst out, yelling at his wife, The car accident was your doing, you
venomous woman!”
So what? A lovechild doesn’t deserve to be in the Yates family!” Mrs. Yates screamed back.
Mr. Yates slapped his wife; she retaliated, and a furious fight
The Yates left in disgrace.
erupted.
Alice was stunned; Jack was defending her. She glanced at him; he was incredibly handsome.
Mrs. García stepped forward.“Jack, Mrs. Yates is blunt, but she means no harm.”
“Even if she means no harm, she should know when to stop,” Jack said coldly. Mrs. Yates had continued to attack Alice even after it was clear Jack was defending her.
Mrs. Garcia’s expression was strained. She hadn’t expected Jack to be so protective of Alice. He knew about their previous engagement talks; this was a slap in the Garcia family’s face, Jack, Mrs. Yates was upset. This is Parker’s party. Give her some face,” Mrs. Garcia said, forcing
a smile.
Alice saw that Mrs. Garcia’s relationship with Jack was different.
Mrs. Garcia turned to Alice. “Miss Windham, your family’s had a difficult day. This is your- friend’s party; let’s not dwell on it.”
Alice smiled and nodded. She’d accomplished her goals.
Mary explained, Aunt Garcia, it’s okay. I don’t blame Alice.”
Mrs. Garcia smiled. “I know you’re both good girls.”
Mrs. Parker turned to Jack ‘Mr. Wilson, is Miss Windham really your girlfriend?”
