Alice turned sharply when she heard Max’s words, her eyes scrutinizing her closely. A thought crossed her mind. Could this be related to Jack?
But on the outside, Alice remained calm. After all, some things weren’t easy to discuss. Max picked up the phone, her voice breaking with a slight sob, clearly shaken.
Alice couldn’t help but feel a hint of irony as she watched Max. It seemed even the Garcia family knew what it felt like to lose someone close.
Yet, it was the Garcia family who had orchestrated that car accident, the one that had taken her parents from her.
“Alice, what are you looking at? My mother will be fine. She’s Amber’s best friend, and the Wilson family will help look for her,” Max snapped.
She didn’t want to show weakness in front of Alice, so she clenched her teeth and tried to act tough.
Alice spoke
coldly,“Are you sure you want to

keep wasting time here?”
Max, clearly anxious about her mother, couldn’t afford to stay here any longer. She turned and hurried away.
Alice watched him go, her gaze growing more intense.
Lana whispered, “Doesn’t it serve them right? The Garcia family’s been so arrogant, they must have made enemies, so now something’s happening to them.”
“Don’t say things like that. If Max finds out, she’ll make trouble for you
Alice didn’t want Lana to get caught up in this.
Max disliked her. If she knew what Lana had said, she would surely come after her.
Lana nodded quickly.“I understand. I’ll be more careful next time.”
“I’m leaving.”
Alice left the school. Sure enough, Jack’s car
Jack’s car was parked by the side of the road.
She walked over quickly, opened the door, and slid inside.
“This is for you,” Jack said.
He handed her a small bag filled with treats.
Alice glanced at the bag.“You still had time to buy these?”
From the time Jack had messaged her, she could tell he’d left very early that morning.
“When you care, you always make time,” Jack replied with a smile.
Jack had passed by a shop this morning, seen a new item on display, and had his driver stop to buy it for her.
He remembered she liked these snacks.
She had told him once that sweets made her feel better.

Alice inhaled the sweet, inviting scent from the bag, and her mood instantly lifted. She opened it, took a bite, and looked at the exquisite packaging.
“Not good?”
Jack tilted his head, his gaze falling on the treat in her hand.
Alice smiled softly.“Try it.”
As she reached to offer him one, he leaned in and took a bite from the one she had already nibbled on.
Alice froze, her fingers brushing against his lips, sending a small chill through her. sweet. Not that great.”
Jack

and then
frowned.“It’s
too
“I think it’s fine,” Alice said with a shrug.
She handed him a bottle of water. She knew he didn’t like sweets.
The treat was definitely too sweet for him.
Jack took a few gulps of water, trying to wash away the sugar, then looked at her.“Was it good? You looked like you were swallowing dirt just now.”
“No, I just thought the box was pretty,” Alice replied, a smile playing on her lips. She didn’t actually think it tasted bad.
It was just that, despite how busy he was, he had still remembered to buy these things to cheer her up. His thoughtful gesture unsettled her heart in ways she didn’t expect. She spoke up, breaking the silence, “What did you mean by striking first?” “You’ll find out when we get there.”
Alice thought for a moment, then said, “Max just got a call. She said her mother is missing Jack narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of approval in his gaze.“Looks like you figured it out!’
“Aren’t worried
you
your mother might find out? I heard they’re close friends, best friends for
years.”
Jack’s eyes glinted with a touch of sarcasm.“Maybe they’re complicit, not friends.”
What if the Garcia family had been behind the accident years ago?
Then, Jack had been in that very car. The whole thing felt off.
But Jack couldn’t say much right now.
Alice changed the subject.“Do
you
think
won’t
you get caught doing all this? It’s illegal, after all.”
“She won’t report it,” Jack replied with confidence.
“But what if the Garcia family reports it?”
Jack turned his head slightly, his expression calm.“When she gets back, she’ll explain everything.”
“You’re so sure of that?”
“Everything’s been arranged.”
Jack didn’t want to share too many details with her, fearing it might ruin the image she had of
him.

These dirty deeds, he didn’t want to taint her with them. He didn’t want to stain her hands with the filth.
That’s why he’d already made all the arrangements last night and left early this morning.
He didn’t want Alice to have to do any of the dangerous work. He would do it all for her.
Alice sensed the darkness in his gaze, and she lowered her eyes, trying to shield her tangled
emotions.
From then on, neither of them said much.
They drove into an underground garage and switched cars, continuing their journey.
Eventually, they stopped in front of a tall building.
Alice felt like she’d been here before, the place looking strangely familiar.
Amber had once invited her here for a spa, she recalled.
Jack led her through the back door of the spa, guiding her through several alleys until they arrived
at a room.
Elena was already there. Upon seeing Alice, she immediately reported, “The person’s inside, and the room is set up. When should we begin?”
Alice looked at Jack.“Begin what?”
“Ask her everything you want to know.”
“How should I ask? We can’t let her get suspicious.”
Jack took her hand in his.“Our roles are simple. We’re the ones who helped plan the accident years ago. Now, we’ve kidnapped Aviana for money. If she doesn’t comply, we’ll expose everything.”
Alice thought quickly, then nodded.“Alright.”
“I’ve arranged for someone to go in. You can have him ask anything you need.”
Alice stood behind a glass window, watching as Aviana was held in a small, dark, and damp room. It was hard to believe this was part of a commercial building.
She saw a thug–like man walk in, tattoos covering his arms, a black mask hiding his features.
He approached Aviana and immediately reached out, brushing his fingers across her face. The woman screamed in fear, “Who… who are you? If it’s money you want, I can give it to you!”
“Bitch, if you’d paid me sooner, I wouldn’t have had to hide all these years,” the man growled.
“What do you mean? I don’t get it!”
Aviana found the man’s words odd, his tone sending a strange chill through her.
“You forgot? Back then, your family hired us to take care of your competition. We planned a fatal car accident. We did the job for you, but you didn’t
pay us.”
Aviana’s mind raced as the memory resurfaced. She quickly defended herself, “I did pay! I definitely paid.”
“Impossible,” the man sneered.“I never got the money.”
“I swear I gave it to Dari!”
Aviana felt a burning sense of injustice rise inside her. How could they claim she hadn’t paid? It

was ridiculous. After all, who would ever dare to carry out such a task without ensuring the payment was made?
Alice, standing behind the glass window, glanced over at Jack.“Dari is Chloe’s dad, right?” eyes narrowing slightly. “Yes, that’s his nickname,” Jack replied quietly, his Alice pressed her lips together and watched the scene unfold, her gaze focused on Aviana.“Keep asking.”
didn’t pay
the The thug slapped Aviana hard across the face, making her flinch.“Dari says you remaining balance. That’s why I had to run off in the middle of the night, hiding for all these years. I’ve been poor as hell.”
“That_must_mean Dari pocketed the money!” Aviana’s voice rose, her fury growing. She was seething with rage. How could those fools have stolen such a small amount of money? Alice grabbed the microphone, her voice calm but firm.“Ask her where Dari is.” Aviana would surely know where he was.
