“I did not announce that Valerie was the president’s wife.”
Malcolm froze?
Terrence took a sip of his drink and sporadically recounted to Malcolm what had happened tonight.
Malcolm’s mind was in a mess after listening. He didn’t know whether to first criticize Terrence for leaving the celebration again for Margaret or to ask Valerie and Ricky what was going on.
“So,” Malcolm pressed his throbbing temple, what do you have planned next?”
He was asked to let Valerie go, considering that the situation had escalated to this point.

Terrence took a sip of wine.
He did not speak.
Deep in his eyes, he stared intensely at the bar, his slender fingers tightly gripping the glass in his hand.

Valerie got up and didn’t see Terrence downstairs. Only then did she go to the restaurant and have her meal. After finishing the meal, Valerie did not rush upstairs as usual, but sat downstairs and turned on the television. The agreed meeting time between her and Ricky was 11 o’clock in the morning.

Her phone rang.

Valerie hesitated before answering the call.
“Is this Ms. Schwartz? I was Dr. Stanley, the doctor who treated you for your stomach illness during your hospitalization last time. You should still remember, right?”
“What did you want?”
“Here’s the thing, I unintentionally came across your medical report today and found that your condition is a bit complicated. Can you come to the hospital and get retested?”

The doctor’s tone became serious. “Ms. Schwartz, stomach problems can be either minor or major. If it is severe, it may develop into cancer. I suggest you come as soon as possible. I will be leaving for a business trip tomorrow and won’t be able to return for at least two weeks!”
