Chapter63
By evening, Valerie had talked herself hoarse, yet still couldn’t find a private detective willing to take the case.
She had no choice but to find a restaurant and have a meal first.
While ordering, she checked her phone and found countless missed calls.
They were all from Theodore.
Only then did she remember what Terrence had said before leaving this morning.
It was already past eight.
Far beyond the agreed time.
And besides, she had never actually agreed to it.
So there was no need to go.
After Valerie ordered the meal, there was suddenly a commotion outside the door.
She looked outside. Beyond the glass, the dazzling lights of the street shimmered, and a Porsche pulled up in front of the restaurant.
The car door swung open, and Terrence stepped out, dressed in a black suit.
He looked cold and imposing.
It felt like people could only admire him from a distance, but dared not approach.
The next second, Terrence lifted his gaze. His icy eyes looked through the glass, landing directly on Valerie.
They were like a cage, locking her in place.
A chill ran down Valerie’s spine. The urge to leave Houston grew even stronger.
The restaurant door was pushed open, and Terrence walked straight to her table.
His fists were clenched, veins visibly pulsing.
Suppressing his anger, he spoke in a deep voice, “Why didn’t you answer Theodore’s calls?”
Valerie took a sip of coffee.“You only informed me but never asked for my opinion.”
Terrence’s eyes darkened.

“But that is not your fault. After all, that is just who you are, doing things your way. My opinion? It never mattered. My preferences? Even less so.” Valerie set down her glass. A soft, almost mocking smile curled on her lips.“So, Mr. Crawford, do you get it now? I did not break up with you because you did not register our marriage. It’s because I can’t stand you anymore.”
Terrence’s heart tightened.
That suffocating sense of losing control surged once again.
“Valerie… I had Theodore pick you up because I planned a candlelight dinner for you. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise.”
