The others joined in the accusations too.
Terrence felt distressed to see Valerie being accused so harshly by those people, unable to catch his breath, his frown deepening.
“Do they… all see Valerie this way?” Terrence asked, his voice strained as if each word cut his throat.
Malcolm looked at Terrence, surprised. “You didn’t know? Ever since you started flying overseas to see Margaret, there’ve been rumors about Valerie being a mistress. It wasn’t a big deal until Margaret came back.”
He paused, studying Terrence curiously. “So, is Valerie really a mistress?”
Even though Malcolm and Terrence were close friends, they never pried into each other’s personal lives.
Terrence’s heart clenched. Even Malcolm thought so.
“She’s not a mistress. I don’t have a romantic relationship with Margaret.
Malcolm scratched his head.“If you and Margaret have nothing going on, then why…”
Terrence cut him off, “Find Makenzie and ask her where Valerie is.”
Malcolm sighed. “Fine.”
When Valerie woke up the following morning, Roderick’s messages were flooding her phone.
“Valerie, have you
watched TV?
“Are you still asleep? If you are awake, remember to turn on the TV.
“Terrence came looking for you here. He left when he couldn’t find you. Don’t worry. I didn’t tell him your address.”
She kept reading.
Valerie turned on the TV and saw that every local channel was showing her photos and information. She knew that even if Roderick hadn’t told Terrence her address, it was already too late.
She just didn’t expect that Terrence would go to such great lengths to find her.
Just then, the TV screen switched to a familiar face. It was Makenzie, whom Valerie had encountered at the restaurant the night before.
