Chapter 17
Hearing the shout, Rose snapped back to reality and looked toward the don
Aiden had just gotten off work. Holding a briefcase, he stood at the entrance with a furious expression
vas petrified on the spot, flustered, and glanced down at her feet.
Hailey lay pale on the ground, her forehead cracked, with bright red blood streaking down her fowless cheeks.
“It wasn’t me… Rose immediately denied.
Aiden stormed over, glaring fiercely at Rose, and quickly helped Hailey up from the ground, yelling for the butler to call 911 51L
Hailey was soon rushed to the hospital.
As she was being put on a stretcher, Hailey suddenly opened her eyes, which showed no trace of pain, only liveliness.
She looked at Rose and gave a remarkably bright smile.
Rose’s eyes widened, her anger flaring, and she started cursing at Hailey like a madwoman, raising her hand to strike
Aiden, along with other medical staff, hurriedly shielded Hailey. The living room was thrown into a chaotic mess.
Protected by everyone, Hailey was taken to the ambulance
Meanwhile, Rose’s hair was disheveled, her expression ferocious, looking more like a shrew than a rich lady.
For the first time, she was so deceived, yet no one believed her
Rose was almost driven mad, curing Hailey inwardly as a wicked bitch.
When the living room finally quieted down with no one else around. Selena came down from the second floor, feigning concem. “Mom, are you okay?”
“Why didn’t you come down earlier?” Rose looked up coldly at her.
Selena’s eyes flickered with guilt.
With so many people around, if she had been there too, the news would definitely have damaged her reputation.
“Sorry, Mom, I was practicing the piano and didn’t hear anything Hailey is really too much,” she said.
Rose sneered, shaking off Selena’s hand and heading into the room
Being her mother, she surely knew what Selena was thinking Tve raised a ingrate, she cursed inwardly.
Hailey’s injury was just a superficial wound. After a check–up and bandaging, there was nothing else to worry about
She lay in the hospital bed, looking calmly at Aiden in front of her
Aiden rubbed his hands together, his gaze toward Hailey a little ingratiating “Hailey, my dear, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything major going on. How about I give you a week off? Rest at home, and let’s not tell Owen about this, okay?
“And how do you plan to deal with Rose?” Hailey asked indifferently.

“Look, we’re all family. What’s there to deal with? She definitely didn’t mean it. I’ll have her come over to apologize to you.
tomorrow
With a sneer, Hailey closed her eyes.
At first, she thought that even though Aiden had betrayed his previous marriage, he at least cared about her, his daughter.
But this time, she was finally wide awake.
After a few seconds, she said, “Dad. I feel like my stepmom doesn’t like me. Maybe I should move out.”
Aiden didn’t refuse, agreeing quickly, “Sure, do you want to live on your own or move to the old house? Grandpa seemed to have a good impression of you last time. Since he’s getting on in years and feels lonely living alone, why don’t you move to the old house?”
Hailey didn’t really care where she lived as long as she didn’t have to stay with that mother and daughter.
She remembered that Grandpa had mentioned her birth mother during the last banquet. Maybe living with him would let her learn more about her mother.
With this thought, she nodded.
Aiden finally smiled in relief, praising, “Our Hailey is so sweet. Remember to win Grandpa’s favor when you go there; he adores you very much.”
Hailey didn’t respond, sneering inwardly. So that’s what you had in mind.‘
She closed her eyes and pulled the blanket over her head.
Seeing this, Aiden didn’t say anything else. After all, Hailey would eventually get married. He might as well use her while he could.
After a few casual instructions, he left the ward.
As night fell, the ward got dark with the lights off. Outside, the city lights twinkled brilliantly against the night sky.
Hailey, clad in a hospital gown, stood alone by the window. Her figure was slim and looked lonely.
When Owen opened the door, he saw this scene, and a pang of heartache surged from the bottom of his heart.
After being notified about Hailey’s accident half an hour ago, he immediately dropped what he was doing, instructing his assistant to locate her ward before rushing over.
Entering the room, he closed the door quietly.
Hailey seemed startled at his appearance. She turned around and looked at him with confusion and surprise. Why are you here?
Owen had a blank expression, looking kinda gloomy. He strode over to Hailey, his face serious as he examined the injury on her forehead.
Hailey wasn’t used to such close contact and tried to step back, but the wall behind her blocked her way.
Owen’s slightly cool fingertips gently touched her forehead. In a low voice, he asked, “Does it hurt?”
Hailey was taken aback upon hearing this, feeling something odd. She looked away and said, “It’s just a superficial injury. It’ll
heal soon.”
ion but sounded like a statement
“Did the Daltons do this?” Owen questioned. It was a question

Hailey dodged his hand, grabbed a cup, and poured him some water, nodding nonchalantly.
Owen pursed his lips, his deep eyes fixed on her slender figure. “You’re not the type to let others hurt you?
He guessed that Hailey’s injury was intentional.
Hailey smiled but didn’t say anything.
“Don’t use this method to deal with people,” Owen said softly.
“Mr. Calhoun, we’re just in a business relationship. Don’t you think you are overstepping?” Hailey sounded somewhat
irritable.
Owen pursed his lips, silent for a few seconds.
*T’ll be heartbroken,” he said, his eyes fixed on her with utter seriousness.
The air seemed to freeze.
Hailey stared at him in shock. After a long while, she scoffed, “Owen, you’re taking this too seriously. We’re just fake lovers”
“That’s just your opinion. I never thought so,” Owen said seriously, his flawless face showing no humor. “If you think our previous relationship was fake, how about I pursue you from now on?”
Hailey frowned, not knowing how to respond.
After the lessons from her previous life, she no longer believed in love. She just wanted those who destroyed her family and caused her suffering to pay the price.
“Whatever, but once our fake relationship ends, I’ll immediately distance myself from you,” Hailey said with a headache.
Owen smiled, his eyes softening. “Okay”
‘How could we become real lovers if the fake relationship didn’t end?’ he sneered inwardly.
“I heard what happened at the school. Do you need my help?” He changed the subject.
“No, I don’t do things without a sure chance of success” Hailey shook her head
