Chapter 38
Hailey laughed. “Of course! I’m a huge fan of ‘River. I even have her autograph.”
“Really?” Owen was surprised.

River had never publicly shown her face. Her autographs were always sent to her home by the publisher, who then mailed them back after she signed them. She had never held a book signing or a fan meet–and–greet.
In the three years since she started writing, there were very few autographed copies of her books, not even reaching five hundred. Yet, Owen had two at home.
Naturally, Owen was surprised to hear that Hailey had an autograph.
But after thinking about it, Owen found it normal. ‘Her identity is already quite mysterious.
Knowing Joshua and learning such remarkable acupuncture skills, she can’t just be a simple second daughter who grew up in a poor and remote area.
Perhaps she has a mentor behind her. Or maybe… she is River herself.
However, this thought was too astonishing and only flashed through Owen’s mind for a moment before he dismissed it.
“By the way, I saw on X that ‘River’s‘ studio sold the rights to Harvest Films & TV. I looked it up and found out it’s a newly established film and TV company.
“Do you know why they sold the rights to Harvest Films & TV?” Seeming to sense Owen’s skepticism, Hailey skillfully changed the subject.
“Harvest Films & TV is a company under Calhoun Group, but not many people know that. I’m not sure why River sold the rights to us. I was also surprised when the person in charge of Harvest Films & TV called me.“Owen smiled.
“I see.” Hailey timely showed her surprise and delight. “If you get the chance to meet ‘River‘ in person, can you ask for her autograph for me?”
“I’ll try,” Owen said with a slight smile, raising his eyebrows slightly. “But don’t you think you need to give me something in return?”
“What?” Hailey was puzzled.
Owen raised his hand, and his slender fingers lifted her chin, bringing his lips down on hers.
“Mmm…” Hailey involuntarily moaned, and then parted her lips, entwining with his.
Men were naturals when kissing.
Owen pressed on, pushing her down onto the sofa, his beautiful long hands holding her slender waist.
Her skin was smooth and delicate, irresistibly pleasing to the touch.
“Hailey… Hailey…” he mumbled her name while kissing her, his voice vague but filled with desire.
Hailey was kissed until she felt dizzy, her mind a complete mess. All she could hear was Owen’s heavy breathing and his low, sexy voice calling her name.
She wanted to respond, but the sound that came out of her was more like a sulk, soft and embarrassing even to her own ears.
“Hailey, I want to hear you call me ‘baby,” he nibbled on her earlobe and whispered.

Hailey’s entire body reacted; she couldn’t help but comply, her mind a hazy mess, following his lead. “Baby…” Her voice was soft.
Owen’s eyes suddenly darkened. Hailey beneath him was soft and slender, her voice tender and sweet.
The situation was intense, and it seemed inevitable.
‘But… Suddenly, Owen got up and walked upstairs.
Hailey’s mind went blank for several seconds; her hair was a mess, and her face was flushed.
She took a deep breath, sat up, straightened her clothes, and then poured herself a glass of cold water.
Just after drinking it and still feeling flustered, she suddenly heard the door opening.
Christopher came out in his wheelchair and saw her in that state.

Their eyes met for a moment before Christopher quickly said, “Sorry, I just came out to get some water. I didn’t expect you to still be here.”
Hailey responded with a soft sound, picked up the glass, filled it with water again, and handed it to him.
After taking the water, Christopher pushed himself back to his room.
As soon as the door closed, he put the glass of water on the table. His usually gentle and beautiful eyes darkened slightly.
He hadn’t been asleep and had overheard the intimate sounds of Owen and Hailey.
He had no intention of eavesdropping, but to his astonishment, he found himself reacting.
Since the accident, he’d watched porn before, but he felt nothing. Yet, just now…
Christopher’s hand tightly gripped the wheelchair, and he painfully moved from the wheelchair to the bed.
He closed his eyes, and the image of Hailey from earlier reappeared in his mind–her delicate collarbone, her smooth and slightly rosy skin, her affectionate eyes, and her slightly swollen lips.
He also remembered the accidental touch of their fingers when she handed him the water and the warmth of her body.
The more he thought about it, the more tense Christopher’s body became.

Owen took a cold shower, changed his clothes, and came downstairs.
It was still raining outside, but much less heavily.
Owen took an extra jacket, put it on Hailey, and helped her wear it. “I’ll take you home.”
With her head down and cheeks still flush, Hailey dared not look at him directly and nodded.
Owen smiled lightly, reached out his hand, and ruffled her hair.
After dropping Hailey off, Owen said, “I have to go on a business trip for a week. We might not be able to see each other for a while. I’ll call you every night.”
Hailey gave a bitter laugh. “Work is important. Don’t worry about me. What could possibly happen to me in Hallon City?”

“I can’t help but worry about you,” Owen sighed deeply and pulled her into his arms. “I have to leave in a hurry this time. When I come back, I’ll hire two female bodyguards for you. I was really worried today.”
I’m not as weak as you think. Owen, what if one day you find out that I’ve hidden a lot of things from you?” asked Hailey.
Owen looked down at her, his expression serious. “If you’re hiding something from me, there must be a reason. Besides, I know you don’t completely trust me yet.
“I understand and respect you. Trust isn’t built overnight. I believe that one day I can become someone you can trust and rely on without any conditions.”
Hailey’s eyes were clear: “Thank you. I’m not a woman who relies on a man. I have my grow into someone who can stand and fight alongside you.”
Owen smiled lightly. “I believe in you.”
To him, Hailey was unique, different from others.
After watching Hailey return to the house, Owen left in his car.
The next day was a weekend.
Hailey didn’t have to wake up early and slept in until nine o’clock.
After washing up and coming downstairs, she saw many people in the living room.
own dreams and ambitions. I will
Selena and Eliza were dressed elegantly, sitting in the living room, while Aiden and Rose were pestering Thomas for conversation.
Thomas had a serious expression on his face and seemed somewhat annoyed.
“What’s going on?” Hailey asked casually as she walked downstairs.
