Chapter 39
“Hailey, you’re awake,” Aiden greeted her with great affection.
Hailey responded with a casual “Mhm“.
“Go get Hailey’s breakfast,” Thomas said immediately, showing his deep affection for Hailey,
“Hailey, you’re waking up so late while staying at Grandpa’s. Isn’t it kind of against the rules? Selena said sarcastically and then looked at Thomas. “Grandpa, don’t mind her.
“She must have been used to lazing around. She probably doesn’t know that people in the Dalton family have a habit of getting up early.”
“What’s wrong with a girl wanting to sleep in a bit? It’s very normal,” Thomas said, obviously siding, with Hailey, “Besides, the works so hard during the week.
“Isn’t it normal to want to rest on weekends? It’s only nine o’clock now. I actually think she woke up too early
With that, Thomas looked at Hailey again. “Hailey, after you finish your breakfast, go back to sleep for a while. You deserve good rest on weekends.”
Selena was furious. “Grandpa, wasn’t it you who set the rule that carly to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy? Why is it different when it comes to her? Are you being too obvious about your favoritism?”
Thomas looked up with a serious and cold gaze. “What’s wrong? You have your mom who loves you. Hailey only has an irresponsible father and no mom. Why can’t I, as her grandpa, show her more affection? Do you want to lecture me?”
Selena had always been pampered. Before Hailey came back, even though Thomas didn’t like her, he would never speak to her in such a cold tone.
Selena burst into tears.
“Selena is your granddaughter too. How could you say that to her?” Rose said sympathetically. “Even if you dote on Hailey, you still have two granddaughters. You should treat them fairly.”
“How can you even talk to me like that?” Thomas snorted and looked at Rose with contempt.
As the father, Thomas knew Aiden had an extramarital affair but there was nothing he could do about it.
Blood ties ran deep, and he couldn’t cut off ties with his Aiden.
When Aiden divorced, as the head of the Dalton family, Thomas gave Valerie a large sum of money. But Valerie insisted on not taking it, so Thomas had the lawyer transfer the money to her account.
Little did they know, that before the paperwork could be processed, Valerie was involved in a car accident and died on the spot.
Thomas had always been upright and clean, and he and his wife had respected and loved each other all their lives. He never expected to have a son like this.
He felt deeply guilty toward Valerie. He wanted to make it up to her child Hailey, but Hailey was sent away by Rose and Aiden.
He was furious, but on second thought, maybe it was for the best that Hailey was sent away.
Rose was also pregnant at the time, and as a stepmother, she definitely wouldn’t take good care of Hailey. So Thomas secretly looked into the family who adopted Hailey and gave the Brown family a large sum of money, hoping they would

raise Hailey well.
Now that Hailey had returned to the Dalton family, Thomas naturally wanted to do everything he could to make it up to
her.
Rose dared not speak when Thomas looked at her like that
She knew Thomas didn’t like her because she had taken someone else’s place.
But she didn’t think she was in the wrong. No one will refuse to live a good life.
‘It was Aiden’s fault for not being able to control himself, which gave me the opportunity. It’s so ridiculous to blame me for something that isn’t my fault.
“Alright, Dad. We didn’t come here to fight with you,” Aiden said, then gestured for Selena to speak. “Selena, hurry up and apologize to Grandpa.”
Naturally reluctant but seeing no other option since Aiden had spoken, Selena stood up with a pitiful expression. Im sorry, Grandpa. It was my fault.”
Thomas just snorted coldly and completely ignored Selena.
“Come on, Dad. Just forgive her. She’s just a kid,” Aiden said.
Thomas changed the subject. “What exactly are you here for today? I’ve said it before, if it concerns the company, go talk to Kenneth. He’s the boss now; I can’t interfere, nor do I want to.”
Aiden said, “Dad, that may be so, but you’re still the head of the family. No matter how powerful Kenneth is at the company, he still has to listen to you.
“I’ve checked, and the Moonblade Legends project is definitely going to make money. Apart from its massive fan base from the original work, even the production team is top–notch. It’s definitely worth investing in.”
‘Moonblade Legends?‘ Hailey recalled while having her breakfast.
She remembered that show from her past life; it was heavily criticized.
Everyone from the lead actors to the production crew was roundly criticized by the audience.
The original work of Moonblade Legends was a fantasy novel with powerful writing and grand scenes, but it was poorly adapted.
Coupled with cheap special effects and actors who were all about looks with no acting skills, even the few experienced actors couldn’t save the show.
The Dalton family really took a huge loss with that show.
“If you had only invested half the money in Moonblade Legends into buying the rights for Thrilling Suspense, would we have missed out?” Thomas said regretfully.
Aiden scoffed, “Dad, Thrilling Suspense is just a detective novel. You’re getting old; you don’t understand the current market trends.
“Everyone loves these fantasy cultivation shows now. That’s where the broad audience is, and that’s how we can get high ratings.”
Thomas was frustrated, thinking Aiden was really short–sighted.
But now that the rights to Thrilling Suspense had already fallen into another company’s hands, there was nothing they could

- do. It was better to focus on something else.
“Is Moonblade Legends really as good as you say?” Thomas asked.
Seeing an opportunity, Aiden quickly added, “Of course, Dad. Don’t you trust my judgment? If you don’t believe me, ask Selena. She’s part of the entertainment circle; she knows what she’s talking about.”
Selena chimed in, “Yes, Grandpa, People nowadays love fantasy and cultivation shows. As long as it’s well–made, it will definitely be a hit.”
Thomas didn’t believe Selena and said, “Show me the recent projects from the company.”
Aiden dared not refuse. He took out his laptop and logged into his personal account.
Thomas put on his reading glasses, but still couldn’t see the small print on the screen clearly. “Hailey, can you help me take a look?”
Just as Hailey finished the last spoonful of her soup, she said, “Sure, Grandpa.”
“No!” Aiden objected, “These are company secrets. How can we let Hailey see them?”
“Why not?” Thomas was the first to speak up. “Hailey is your daughter too. She will inherit half of this company one day. Are you treating her like an outsider?”
