Chapter 47
Christopher rarely shed tears, but that was only because he had never reached the point of true heartbreak.
If no one saw him, then even if he died, it would not have mattered.
However, at this moment, the girl’s small gesture completely shattered Christopher.
He lowered his head, curled up into a ball, and sobbed quietly like a child.
Hailey did not disturb him. Instead, she silently stood by his side, waiting for him to let out his emotions.
No one knew how long had passed before Christopher finally lifted his head and let out a deep breath. “I must have made a fool of myself”
Lily shook her head and quickly said, “It’s fine, it’s fine. The wind is strong here. Let’s get in the car first. Hailey is not wearing a coat–she will catch a cold.”
She did not care about Christopher’s condition. Her only concern was Hailey.
Only then did Christopher hurriedly take off his coat and try to hand it to Hailey.
Hailey stopped him and refused. “No need. Keep it on. I’ll just head back to the car.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she sneezed.
“Get back in the car. Leave this to me.” Lily, her expression cold, pushed Hailey inside before moving Christopher’s wheelchair over and helping him into it.
Just then, the ambulance arrived.
Although Christopher was not seriously injured, there was a risk of a lung infection. With the help of the paramedics, he was taken into the ambulance.
Hailey felt uneasy about the situation and instructed Lily to accompany him to the hospital.
Fortunately, after the examination, there was nothing serious–just physical weakness, which could lead to a high fever.
Hailey had also been exposed to the cold wind for a long time, so she underwent a check–up as well. She had developed a slight fever.
Under Lily’s firm insistence, Hailey was forced to receive an IV drip and was placed in the same hospital room as Christopher.
Midway through the IV treatment, Hailey fell asleep.
When she woke up, it was already six in the evening.
Owen called.
His voice was filled with urgency when he asked, “Hailey, where are you? I have been trying to call, but your phone was unreachable. Even your grandfather is worried–he called me to ask about you.”
Hailey’s voice was slightly hoarse as she responded, “I fell asleep. My phone ran out of battery and shut off. I just charg
Only then did Owen let out a sigh of relief. “Where are you? I’ll come find you now.”
Hailey had regained some clarity and asked, “Aren’t you away on a business trip?”

“I just got off the plane, Owen replied flatly. “I was worried about you, so I booked the earliest flight back. My return flight is at 8 in the morning tomorrow. It’s fine.”
Hailey finally noticed the hoarseness in his voice.
Suddenly, her throat felt stuffed, as if filled with cotton. She could not speak, an overwhelming discomfort washing over her.
“Send me your location. I’m coming over, Owen urged.
Hailey sniffled, trying her best to mask any abnormality in her voice, and said, “I’m at the hospital”
An hour later, Owen arrived.
When he pushed open the hospital room door, he was surprised–the first person he saw was not Hailey but Christopher.
Christopher raised a hand in greeting, “Owen.”
Owen frowned and questioned, “Why are the two of you together?”
Hailey explained, “It’s a long story. This involves Christopher’s personal matters.”
The air in the room felt stagnant for a moment before Owen suddenly curled his lips into a smirk, asking, “So now, the two of you are close enough to share secrets?”
Hailey stood up and replied, “That’s not it, Owen. You’re misunderstanding.”
Owen took a deep breath, his handsome yet aloof face tinged with anger. He tried his best to suppress his emotions, his voice cold. “Switch rooms,” he commanded.
This time, Hailey obediently agreed, “Alright.”
Only then did Owen’s expression soften slightly. He personally handled the transfer paperwork and moved Hailey into a private ward.
Lily had left earlier due to other matters, so Owen did not see her.
Hailey was still on the IV drip. Her fever had not subsided, and her head felt heavy. Her cheeks were flushed unnaturally.
Owen was still upset. He stood by the window, his back to her, unwilling to speak.
Hailey pressed her lips together. She was not good at comforting people, but given the situation, if she did not try to appease Owen, he would surely remain sulking.
She walked over and gently hugged him from behind, saying, “Don’t be angry. This was my mistake. I shouldn’t have hidden things from you or shared secrets with another man. But I truly just ran into him by chance–it wasn’t intentional.”
Owen did not move, seemingly still holding onto his frustration.
Hailey bit her lip and carefully asked, “What will it take for you to stop being mad?”
Owen turned around, his deep–set eyes fixed on her. There was helplessness in his expression as he said, “Kiss me, and I’ll let it go.”
Hailey froze for a moment.
Seeing her reaction, Owen assumed she was unwilling. His expression immediately turned cold again.
Unexpectedly, Hailey asked, “That’s all?”

Owen was momentarily suumed.
The next second, she stood on tiptoe, wrapped an arm around his neck, and pressed her lips only wyd
The back of her hand, where the IV needle was inserted, was covered in bruises. Her fair skin made the AD MARK striking, evoking a sense of pity
Owen gently rubbed the area around the needle mark, lifted her hand to his lips, and Vissed “Dowse bure he dro
Hailey chuckled and shook her head. “I’m not that delicate. It’s just an injection
Owen sighed, “Why are you so different from everyone else?
