When Owen returned, arms full of bags, Hailey had just finished her shower and was trying to figure out how to make her way out.
“Hailey, are you done? Owen called, knocking gently on the bathroom door
Hailey wrapped herself in a towel, then cracked the door open just enough to extend a soft, pale hand. Tm done. Just hand me the things.”
Owen passed her a small bag.
When Hailey saw the underwear in the bag, she bit her lip, her cheeks flushing again. She thought, Owen is way too thoughtful
After drying off, Hailey glanced at the dirty clothes, hesitating for a moment. “Owen, my clothes are dirty, too.”
“Wear mine.” He stood up, walked over to the wardrobe, and pulled out a white shirt, handing it to her.
Once Hailey changed into the shirt, she emerged from the bathroom. Her hair was still wet, and she wore nothing but Owen’s white shirt, which hung loosely on her frame, reaching down to her thighs. The sight of her long, slender legs was impossible to ignore, drawing attention to the delicate contrast of her skin.
“I couldn’t find a dry towel,” she said, lifting her head. Her eyes, clear and beautiful, looked up at him with innocent purity. With her hair still damp, the shirt quickly became soaked with water.
“I’ll find one for you. You should get in bed and cover–up, Owen said, guiding her to the bed and tucking her in. “You can’t afford to catch a chill right now.”
Hailey obediently slipped off her shoes and sat on the edge of the bed, curling up into a little ball, looking small and fragile -exactly the kind of person you’d want to protect.
Owen grabbed a gray towel from the closet, gently draping it over her head, his movements soft as he began to dry her hair. Her hair was long, thick, and black, the texture so smooth it felt like the finest silk beneath his fingers.
Owen dried her hair until it was half–dry, then grabbed the hair dryer. With his long, elegant fingers, he carefully lifted her strands and began to dry her hair.
Hailey had been sitting, but whether it was the softness of his touch or the gentle warmth of the air, she soon began to feel drowsy. Before she realized it, her eyes fluttered shut.
Owen was focused on drying her hair when he suddenly felt her lean against his chest. Looking down, he realized that Hailey had already fallen asleep.
He couldn’t help but chuckle softly, picking up the pace to finish drying her hair. Once done, he placed the hair dryer aside, gently adjusted Hailey’s sleeping position, and carefully laid her down on the bed, covering her with the blankets.
In the middle of the night, Hailey woke up to the sharp pangs of menstrual cramps.
The room was pitch dark, and Hailey’s abdomen was cramping painfully. She needed to get to the bathroom but fumbled around, unable to find the light switch.
Suddenly, there was movement beside her, and in the next instant, the light flickered on.
Owen stepped out from the side of the bed, his features filled with concern. “Are you feeling that bad?”
Hailey didn’t want to speak, so she weakly nodded in response.

Chapter 58
She lifted the covers, got out of bed, and hurried to the bathroom, where she stayed for a long while.
Meanwhile, Owen went downstairs to the kitchen, boiled some water, and made a honey drink. Worried she might be hungry, he also boiled a few eggs while he was at it.

The water heated quickly, and once it was ready, Owen filled the hot water bottle and grabbed everything–along with the honey drink and boiled eggs, to take them upstairs.
Hailey hadn’t come out yet, and it was quite a while before she finally did.
Once Hailey was in bed, Owen placed a pillow behind her for support, then gently placed the hot water bottle on her stomach and fed her the honey drink.
“Do you want something to eat?” he asked softly.
Hailey’s stomach ached intensely, and she wasn’t hungry. She shook her head.
Owen set the eggs aside and climbed into bed beside her, pulling her into his arms to warm her hands and feet.
Hailey couldn’t sleep either, but she kept her eyes closed, trying to force herself into rest.
Owen picked up a book from the nightstand and began reading aloud to her, his deep, soothing voice filling the room, helping distract her from the pain.
His voice was rich and comforting, full of an indescribable tenderness, never too loud or intrusive. Before long, Hailey found herself lost in his words, the pain in her abdomen gradually fading.
About thirty minutes later, Hailey finally drifted back to sleep.
Owen set the book aside, preparing to rest, but suddenly, his phone lit up on the nightstand.
It was a message, only a few words: [Owen, I’m coming back next week. I hope to see you.]
His

darkened for a moment as he read it, and then he deleted the message without a second thought.
The next day, the sky was clear.
Hailey woke up feeling much better, though her abdomen still felt a bit bloated. She got up and went to the bathroom.
After finishing up, Hailey stepped out of the bathroom just as Owen walked in from outside.
He brought in a bowl of oatmeal and smiled when he saw her. “Perfect timing. Drink this first.”
Hailey sat back down on the bed and obediently ate the oatmeal, feeling her stomach settle a bit afterward.
“Does it still hurt?”
Hailey shook her head. “Much better.”
“This is getting a bit serious. I’ll take you to the doctor this afternoon,” Owen said, his expression serious as he sat beside her and gently placed his hand on her abdomen.
“I don’t want to take medicine,” Hailey lowered her head.
“That’s not up to you,” Owen replied firmly, not letting her get out of it this time.
Hailey bit her lip. “Can we go another day? I’m feeling so drained today, I don’t want to go out.”

After dinner at Ower’s place, Hailey knew it was time for her to leave.
She had already stayed too long. If she didn’t head back soon, it would start to look bad.
“When will you come back with me again? Penelope wants to see you, Owen said, holding her hand, reluctant to let go.
Next Saturday, there’s a classmate’s birthday party, and I might not be able to make it,” Hailey said, her brows furrowed with some hesitation

Owen smirked and playfully pinched her nose. “If you go, then I’ll go too.”
Hailey grinned mischievously. “Well, I’ll introduce you to my classmates then, so you won’t be worried thinking I might like someone else”
