Haley straightened up, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips as she glanced at Selena. With a slight raise of her eyebrow, the sand, “You should’ve said something earlier, Selena.”
Selena was taken aback. She thought. Why is Hailey acting so unpredictably? Any normal person would have been furious By now, completely losing their composure at such a revelation.
“If you had told me you liked Mateo, I never would’ve made a move,” Hailey’s voice was cool and steady, but there was an mistakable smugness that seemed designed to infuriate.

Her unapologetic behavior, so boldly indifferent, was the kind that typically made people recoil. Yet, for some reason, it sparked a twinge of admiration from the crowd.
The onlookers thought, She’s so cool, so fierce! What does a man even matter? If a girl’s good–looking, who needs one? Even Owen is completely captivated by her–why would she care about someone like Mateo?”
Selena stood frozen in shock. She thought, I never imagined Hailey would say something like that. It’s like she’s confirming every bad rumor about her. Has she given up on her integrity?”
Mateo, unable to hold back any longer, snapped, “Hailey!”
Hailey casually turned her head as if as if noticing Mateo, feigning surprise. “Oh, you’re still here? Sorry, I didn’t realize.”
A few onlookers couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene.
“By the way, you just said you’d take responsibility for me, right?” She narrowed her eyes, eyeing Mateo with a measured glance, her lips curving into a smile that seemed to mock his overconfidence.
Mated’s face went from pale to flushed, his discomfort palpable. He thought, I’ve never encountered such a shameless woman before!
She raised an eyebrow, her voice steady and calm yet carrying an undeniable edge. “You sound very confident, but unfortunately, I don’t need you to take responsibility. You wouldn’t be able to even if you tried. Of course, if you really want to take responsibility, there’s still a way.
I’ve recorded everything you just said. I’ll be handing it over to the police tomorrow. You can start by taking responsibility for the rumors you’ve been spreading.” Her voice was clear and almost musical, leaving no room for doubt.
Mateo’s face changed in an instant.
Hailey gave him a light glance before pulling a set of keys from her pocket and tossing them to Joshua. “Here’s your birthday gift. It’s supposed to be a day of celebration, so don’t let anyone else ruin the mood,” she said, her tone casual yet deliberate.
Joshua’s frustration melted away the instant he saw the keys, and he jumped up, excitement lighting up his face. “No way! Is this the global limited edition motorcycle I’ve been drooling over?”
Hailey smirked, “Why don’t you go check for yourself?”
Joshua couldn’t contain his excitement. “You’re amazing. Hailey! I can’t believe you managed to get this! I love you!”
Hailey waved him off dismissively and pulled out her phone, walking a few steps away. Finally, the drama seemed to have

Just then, Mateo suddenly called out, “Hailey, you care so much about Owen, but did you know he’s out on a date with another woman right now?”
The air seemed to freeze at that moment.
Hailey stopped in her tracks, not turning around.
But Mateo knew–she was shaken.
“This is what I came across on my way here,” Mateo said, a smug tone in his voice. “The man you’ve been obsessing over, Owen, was having dinner with another woman at a restaurant. They seemed pretty close.”
Hailey turned around, her delicate features hardening into an icy mask.
“Is that all you have to say?” Her voice was sharp and cold, as if it carried shards of ice, sending an unsettling chill through the air.
Mateo couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down his spine. The smug expression on his face faltered, stiffening in disbelief.
Hailey stood still, her presence radiating a powerful and chilling energy. No one had ever seen her like this before.
“Mateo,” she continued, her voice sharp and dripping with sarcasm, “You and Owen. Who do you think I’d believe?”
Mateo fell silent for a moment, then spoke again. “I understand if you don’t believe me, but Hailey, I’m telling the truth. Feel free to investigate.”
Hailey remained expressionless. Then, suddenly, a cold smile tugged at her lips. It was sharp, stunning, like a thorned rose- beautiful, yet dangerous.
“Thanks for the warning, but I’m afraid I trust Owen one hundred percent,” she said, her eyes cold as ice. With that, she turned and walked away.
The drama finally came to an end. People returned to their conversations and activities, and the atmosphere in the room slowly shifted back to its lively, energetic vibe.
Hailey had spent some time in the private room before deciding to step out. She was heading toward the restroom when she noticed the door to the nearby emergency exit slightly ajar. Faint sounds of heavy breathing slipped through the gap.
She had no intention of intruding, but just as she passed by, a gust of wind swept through the corridor, pushing the door to the emergency exit wide open. Hailey glanced inside and instantly recognized the scene: a man and a woman locked in a passionate kiss.
The man looked vaguely familiar, but it was the woman who caught Hailey’s attention. She immediately recognized her as Owen’s cousin, Amy. Amy wasn’t a student at Everton High School, but being from the Calhoun family, she had no problem attending an event like this.
Amy wore a pink dress, her shoulder partially exposed, and her legs wrapped around the man’s waist. Her face was flushed, and the man had his head buried in her chest, making it impossible to see his face.
From the angle, he seemed slender, and although he looked somewhat familiar, Hailey couldn’t place where she had seen him before.
The couple was being affectionate, and Hailey didn’t want to intrude, so she kindly shut the door securely behind them and moved to the other side. She had planned to call Owen to ask when he would be arriving, but this scene had caught her off – guard, leaving her feeling awkward.
Hailey pulled out her phone and dialed Owen’s number. The phone rang for quite a while before anyone answered.
“Hello?”

It was a woman’s voice, sweet and soothing.
Hailey’s movements froze for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. “I’m looking for Owen.”
“Sorry, Owen’s in the shower. You might have to wait a bit,” the woman replied, her voice soft and melodic.
Hailey’s throat tightened instantly as if it were stuffed with cotton.
“Thank you,” she said, her voice strained. With stiff fingers, she ended the call.

Hailey stared blankly out the window, lost in thought for what felt like an eternity, her mind adrift. She thought, ‘I should trust Owen. He’s not that kind of person. But the nightmare from my past life keeps replaying in my mind over and over again.‘
“Hailey? Hailey?”
Hailey snapped back to reality, her gaze shifting to Casey, who looked at her with concern. “What’s wrong? I called you so many times, but you didn’t respond.”
Hailey took a deep breath and shook her head. “I’m fine. What’s going on?”
Casey pulled the guy next to her, a smile of happiness spreading across her face. “Let me introduce you. I’ve mentioned him before–this is Arthur James.”
