Henry slammed on the brakes and snapped. “Are you blind? You trying to get yourself killed? Go stand somewhere else if you’ve got a death wish!”
Hailey swallowed and stepped up to the window. “Mr. Lester, hi, I’m Hailey from Dalton Group Entertai—”

Henry, a man in his fifties who had seen it all, barely spared her a glance. He had dealt with plenty of producers trying to win him over. Some had even pulled stunts like this.
He ignored her and headed upstairs, figuring she would give up soon enough.
She didn’t. For the next two weeks, every time he left or came home, there she was.
The weirdest part, she never once brought up work. Instead, she just smiled at him, bright and sweet. Then one morning, he found breakfast waiting in his car. At first, he had no clue who put it there. Until he caught her in the act.
Henry had a daughter once. She was kidnapped and killed when she was just 18.
After that, he pulled away from the industry and decided to focus on his family. These days, when he looked at Hailey, it was like seeing his own daughter.

Henry packed up his wife’s things and left the hospital, wandering the pedestrian street with no real destination. The world around him was bustling, colorful lamps and banners everywhere, but he felt nothing but emptiness. Suddenly, without thinking, he stepped right into the street, hoping to end it all.
Then, someone grabbed his arm and yanked him back. He stumbled, twisted his ankle, and crashed to the ground.
For a moment, he felt like a lost kid. He looked up, and there was Owen, staring down at him with that familiar cold expression.
Henry blinked, then recognized him. “Owen… It’s you”
Owen barely seemed to care. “If she wasn’t my girlfriend, I wouldn’t have bothered saving you.”
He said it like it was no big deal, passing the credit to Hailey. She peeked out from behind Owen, looking at him with concern. “You okay?”
Henry, still on the ground, smiled weakly. “Well, well, young lady, it’s you”
Hailey nodded, trying to help him up, but Owen beat her to it and lifted him instead
Henry let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “Sorry, kid. I’m not in the right headspace to help you right now. You’re better off asking someone else.”
Hailey just nodded, her expression soft. I’m not asking for work stuff. I just want you to pull yourself together.”

Something about Henry caught her attention the moment she met him. She had this strange feeling like the just wanted to give him a hug.
Tears ran down Henry’s face as he broke down like a baby on the sidewalk. He cried for what felt like forever, until he finally passed out.
