Chapter 88
“Excuse me, are you Mr. Henry Lester’s family? Hailey asked quietly
The voice on the other end sounded surprised to hear a young girl. He paused for a moment before replying. “Yes”
“His wife passed away, and he’s unconsious at the hospital. If you’re his family, would you be able to come by Hailey explained
自
The man was polite, replying, “Thanks for letting me know. Send me the address, and I’ll be there soon”
After hanging up, Hailey sighed, and Owen gave her a reassuring pat on the head. Don’t stress. I’ll be fine
Still, Hailey couldn’t shake the feeling in her gut. She didn’t really know what it was, but something felt off.
Owen left Richard in charge and took Hailey to grab a bite at a restaurant nearby. While they ate. Owen called Penelope
“You’re talking about Henry? Penelope sighed. “I know him. He was close with your parents back in the day. Even after they passed. he’d still come visit me. Used to carry you around when you were little. Life’s been tough on him.”
“What happened to him?” Owen asked.
younger, ran away, and never went back. He’s been on
Penelope went on, “Well, he had a fallout with his family when he was younger, ran a his own ever since. That’s about all I know.”
Owen nodded and hung up. Henry spent the week in the hospital and ended up ringing in the New Year there.
Hailey had been running around like crazy this year. The Brown family from the countryside had sent her tons of food.
She hadn’t been home in over six months, so she planned to visit her family after New Year.
That evening, Owen asked Hailey out on a date. The city was buzzing, and Hallon City was even more lively than usual.
At first, Owen just wanted to spend some time with Hailey, but as soon as he picked her up, Ivan called, asking them to meet at a bar.
Owen seemed a little annoyed, but Hailey didn’t mind and agreed.
Ivan then added, “Don’t forget to bring Casey.”
Hailey called Casey, but she didn’t pick up, probably busy, so Hailey shot her a quick WhatsApp message and hopped in the car with Owen.
As soon as they reached the bar, Hailey’s phone rang. It was Christopher, She picked it up, but there was no answer right
away.
She waited for a moment, about to hang up when suddenly she heard a noise on the other end.
A loud bang, followed by something heavy crashing to the ground. Then came the unmistakable screech of something dragging across the floor.
“Look at you. You’re cozying up to someone, yet you’re still alone on New Year’s, Poor little brother, I really feel sorry for you. Why not go back to the Blackwell family?”
Hailey immediately knew who it was Randolph. Christopher’s older brother,
She had forgotten about him, but now she remembered. Turned out, he was still keeping tabs on Christopher.

“What’s going on?” Owen asked, noticing the shift in Hailey cexpression
“Christopher is in trouble. We need to go she replied, sounding urgent. Cheen didn’t ask any more questions and just nodded, ready to help
Another crash. Another loud hang Hadley’s eyes widened. She quickly grabbed Owen’t phone and called the emergency number, then the police
Meanwhile, back at Christopher’s apartment, he was on the floor, looking rough. His face was pale, and blood dripped from a cut on his forehead.
In front of him. Randolph stood, wearing black sportswear, holding a baseball bar, clearly drunk
The bat scraped along the floor as Randolph crouched down, running his fingers arross Christopher’s fæer. Then, he stopped and smiled darkly.
Randolph yanked off the mask from Christopher’s face.
What had once been a handsome face now had a deep scar running down the right side, leaving Christopher looking almost unrecognizable.
Randolph sneered, his eyes full of contempt. “You still think you’ve got a chance with Hailey? Take a look at yourself”
Christopher was in a bad state, feeling like all his last bit of pride was ripped away. He was relieved Hailey wasn’t
him like this.
Then, Eliza’s voice rang out from the doorway. “Who the hell are you? What’s going on here?” Her face was filled with shock
Randolph stood up, looking like a total jerk. “Oh, looks like my disfigured brother’s got some luck with women, huh?”
Christopher gritted his teeth, his neck muscles straining as he yelled at Eliza, “Run“”
Eliza froze for a second, eyes locked on the blood–soaked baseball bat in Randolph’s hand. She was shaking, but somehow managed to pull out her phone, desperate to call the police.
Before she could dial, Randolph snatched the phone right out of her hands and smashed it onto the foor
“Ah!” Eliza screamed, falling to the ground in shock.
She was already scared, and now her face went completely pale.
The apartment took up the entire floor, with thick walls that made it easy for Randolph to make noise without worrying about anyone overhearing. Still, he locked the door behind him, just in case.
Drunk and grinning like a madman, Randolph dragged the bat across the floor, making a horrible scraping sound. Eliza couldn’t stop shaking.
He walked over to her and lifted her chin with the bat. In a sleazy voice, he said, “You’re not bad–looking. But how did you end up with my ugly brother? Just look at his face. It’s disgusting.”
Eliza finally saw Christopher’s face, and her eyes went wide.
Randolph noticed the shock on her face and smirked. “Oh, you were fooled, huh? Well, let me clear things up for you. This is his real face. The one you saw before? That was just some fake skin he put on. Pretty gross, right?”
Christopher lowered his head, blood trickling from his forehead. His scar was now fully exposed, and the rough texture of his face was even more disturbing in the light.
Eliza didn’t turn away. Instead, her heart sank, and she realized just how much she had fallen for him. She felt sorry for

him.

Christopher didn’t care about how others saw his face. The only thing that bothered him was his own shame.
He had used the mask to deceive himself, telling himself he had a chance with Hailey. But now, with everything exposed, his fragile self–esteem had been shattered.
He felt humiliated.
“You’re the disgusting one!” Eliza snapped, finding a burst of courage she didn’t expect. With a shaky breath, she shoved Randolph away, standing her ground despite the fear.
