Chapter 01

At Nine Months Pregnant, I Faced the Signs of Premature Labor

Fear and pain consumed me, and instinctively, I reached out to my husband, Ryan, for help

But no matter how many times I called, the line remained unanswered

Just as I was sinking into despair, a notification popped up on my phonea Facebook link shared by none other than Ryan’s old flame, Linda

The caption read

It’s all my husband’s fault for being too rough during our lovemaking. It scared the baby! But since he promised to take me and our baby for a maternity photoshoot tomorrow, I’ll forgive him this time-”

The photo attached showed my husband, Ryan, cradling Linda’s belly with reverence, his lips pressed tenderly against her skin

His gaze was filled with adoration, something I thought was reserved only for me

The background of the image hit me like a thunderboltit was my house

She was lying on the bed I had shared with Ryan for seven years

The sheets, the bedding and everything in that photo had been washed, dried, and lovingly arranged by

  1. me

They were symbols of what I believed was our happy life together

Now, they were steeped in the stench of their betrayal

Months ago, Ryan had insisted I move into the hospital to protect the baby.”

Since then, I hadn’t set foot in my own home

Now, I understood the real reason for his urgency

A wave of nausea and numbness swept over me, and before I realized it, tears streamed down my face

More messages followed

Oops, sorry, sent it to the wrong person,Linda wrote, feigning innocence

Then, a second message appeared

But I guess you’ve seen it now. I’ve actually been living in your house for over six months. The baby in my belly is six months along, by the way

She attached a selfie, cradling her belly, wearing a pink nightgown that belonged to me

Oh, and by the way, this baby? Ryan begged me to have it. He said you’ve had miscarriages before, that your body is weak, and your genes might not be good enough for his heir. He needs a healthy baby to inherit the family business, you know

Another photo followed. It was a maternity test report

The date on it twisted the knife further

July 21

That was the same day I had my prenatal checkup

Ryan had claimed there was an emergency at work and couldn’t accompany me

So, I had gone alone, bearing the stares and whispers of other mothers

Poor thing, she’s all alone for her checkup, someone had muttered

Stay away from her, another whispered. If her husband won’t even show up, she’s probably a mistress, hiding from the real wife.”

Then the baby must be illegitimate, someone else concluded

I wanted to scream at them, to defend my dignity

Ryan loves me. He’s just busy with work. That’s all

But now, I knew the truth. He had abandoned me to stay by his mistress and their unborn child

Driven by a masochistic urge, I scrolled through Linda’s account, uncovering more evidence of betrayal

A familiar date popped up…… January 15

It was our wedding anniversary

I had spent the entire day preparing a candlelit dinner, decorating our home with roses, and baking a cake to surprise Ryan

When the door finally opened, it wasn’t just Ryan who walked inLinda was with him

01

She’s an old friend who just returned to the country.Ryan explained She has nowhere to stay, to 1 invited her to stay the night

As they stepped into the living room, their eyes fell on the roses, candles, and the meat I had painstakingly prepared

Ryan looked indifferent, while Linda suppressed a giggle, biting her lip before teasingly remarking

What is this, the 90s? Celebrating anniversaries with roses and candles? So old fashioned.”

Her words stung, making me feel ridiculous and out of place

At the dining table, I had set only two chairs

Without hesitation, Ryan said, Linda’s a guest. She and I need to catch up. You can eat in the kitchen.”

I was stunned

The dinner I had lovingly prepared for us, he now wanted me to eat alone, while he entertained another

woman

I couldn’t hold back my frustration and confronted him, demanding Linda apologize for her disrespect

Instead, Ryan exploded. He overturned the table, scattering food and decorations everywhere, before storming out with Linda to dine at a restaurant

When I tried to grab his arm, he shoved me so hard I fell to the ground

The searing pain I felt then was unbearable

Blood pooled beneath me, and my threemonthold unborn child was gone

Ryan ignored my cries, leaving with Linda as I writhed on the floor in agony

Later, Linda posted photos of their dinner online

They were seated in an elegant restaurant, Ryan holding her close as she showed off a luxury handbag

The caption read: True love means never making you angry. Thank you for your patience and for treating me like your one and only.”

No wonder I couldn’t reach him that night

Now, lying in my hospital bed, the memories threatened to crush me

My body and spirit were breaking under the weight of betrayal

Chape of

Summoning the last ounce of my strength, I pressed the emergency call button

As darkness closed in, I vaguely heard the nurse shouting

Quick! Room 15! The patient is showing signs of premature labor and is bleeding. Get the doctor immediately!”
