Chapter 08

In shock, Linda let out a piercing scream. Her face turned pale as she ran toward the screen, trying to block the evidence with her body

It was useless

The guests had already seen everything, and the room erupted into chaos

The truth was clear to everyone nowLinda’s pregnancy, which she had flaunted as the key to her child becoming the sole heir, turned out to be a lie

The child wasn’t even Ryan’s

Ryan’s eyes turned bloodred

He snatched the baby from Linda’s arms and handed it to his assistant

Take the child and run a paternity test. Do it immediately.”

Linda clung to Ryan’s arm, tears streaming down her face

No, Ryan! How can you believe her lies and not trust me?”

Ryan shook her off roughly, sending her sprawling to the ground

The guests, already stunned by the unfolding drama, now watched in disbelief

Some even began filming the scene

Linda scrambled to her feet, pointing at me and Ethan, and shrieked, You cheated too! Why can’t you leave me alone? And how dare you bring your lover to my wedding?”

Ridiculous,Ethan muttered, stepping protectively in front of me

Ryan pulled Linda back, his voice cold. Lover? That’s Sophia’s brother!”

Linda froze, her face draining of all color. Clinging to Ryan’s suit, she wept

Darling, I did this because I love you so much. Please forgive me! I’ll be the perfect wife. I’ll give you ten children but just don’t abandon this baby.”

She grabbed at his jacket desperately, begging for his forgiveness

But Ryan’s anger was out of control

He yanked her up by the collar and gripped her neck with both hands

You evil woman! You hired killers to harm Sophia and my child. Then you dared to have another man’s child and try to pass it off as mine? I ran myself ragged, keeping you from giving birth in a jail cell. This is how you repay me?”

His grip tightened as his rage escalated, and he didn’t seem to notice Linda’s face turning purple from lack

of air

Since our divorce, Ryan had lost everything.. his oncehappy family, his thriving career, and his reputation

And now, the woman he had left everything for was a manipulative liar. Her child wasn’t even his

Ryan’s breakdown was complete

A guest screamed and rushed forward, forcing Ryan to let go of Linda

She collapsed unconscious to the ground, but Ryan, still seething, kicked her

Stop faking! This is just another one of your tricks!”

But this time, Linda didn’t get up

The police arrived soon after, taking Ryan away for questioning. Linda was rushed to the hospital

The wedding had turned into a public spectacle

Soon after, Ryan’s company officially declared bankruptcy and went into liquidation

Ryan, still awaiting trial for his actions, fainted upon hearing the news

The court granted me full custody of my son, Matthew

Ryan was sentenced to five years in prison for assault, and Linda, if she survived, would face charges for hiring assassins

Our marriage was well and truly over

Five years passed in the blink of an eye

Ryan’s prison sentence had ended, and that spring morning, I was playing in the garden with Matthew

Chapter on

The sunlight bathed my son’s innocent, smiling face, making it shine like gold

I felt a gaze on us and turned to see a familiar figure standing just beyond the garden fence

Ryan’s appearance had changed a lot over the years

His once handsome face looked weary, with strands of gray in his hair

He no longer carried the confidence he once did

Since his imprisonment, Linda had remained in a coma due to prolonged oxygen deprivation

Doctors said she might never wake up and would likely remain bedridden for life

Ryan had written to me often from prison, asking about me and Matthew

I replied occasionally, updating him on Matthew’s milestones

Whenever I responded, his next letter would be long and filled with emotional reflections about fatherhood and his regrets

But when I offered to bring Matthew to visit, he refused, saying he didn’t want his son to sep

Mommy!Matthew wrapped his arms around me, curious about the man standing outside the garden. Who is that, Mommy?”

I stayed silent, waiting for Ryan to introduce himself

Before he could speak, a sweet voice chimed in

Mommy, why are you playing with Matthew without me?”

A little girl ran out of the house and hugged my leg. I want to play too!”

She was followed by a tall, handsome man, who walked up and kissed me on the cheek

Lilia woke up and insisted on finding you. She doesn’t even want her dad anymore.”

His voice trailed off as he noticed Ryan

My current husband, Luan, had loved me since our university days, though I had been too focused on Ryan to notice

After my divorce, he returned to my life and patiently pursued me

Now, we had a happy family and a betul dang

Luan offered gently, Should take

I shook my head firmly No, it’s okay”

Ryan’s eyes reflected heartbreak as he stepped into the garden

He knelt on one knee in front of Matthew

Hi, Matthew, I’m an old friend of your mom’s. You can call me Uncle Ryan. I used to visit you when you were very little. Can I hug you

His voice trembled with emotion as he spoke

Matthew looked at me for permission

When I nodded, he held out his arms, and Ryan pulled him into a tight embrace

Tears streamed down Ryan’s face as he kissed Matthew’s forehead

Go play, sweetheart,Ryan finally said, letting him go

Matthew ran off, grabbing Lilia’s hand and laughing as they disappeared into the garden

Ryan turned to me with a complex expression. Sophia, you look so happy.”

He hesitated before continuing

I’ve thought a lot about the past. If I’d controlled my anger back then, would this happiness have been mine? I dream of those days when we were young and in love, only to wake up to the cold reality of my

cell.”

He sighed. When I got out, I wanted to win you back, to make things right. But it seems you’ve already found the happiness I couldn’t give you.”

He looked at me one last time before walking away, his steps slow and heavy, without a single glance

back

As the spring sun warmed my face, Luan wrapped his arms around me, offering silent comfort

You’ll always have us,he said softly

The sound of children’s laughter filled the air, and for the first time, I felt truly free of my past

This was my new beginning
