Chapter 126
Juliette hurriedly sat down on the sofa and held Louis in her arms, wiping away the tears on his face. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
This seemed to be the first time Juliette had seen Louis cry, and her heart ached for him.
She wished she had magic to make the child happy in a second.
Louis replied, “Harper told me to have dinner, and that Mommy and Daddy would be back when I finished dinner. But after I finished dinner, neither Daddy nor Mommy came back.”
Louis sniffled, his little nose red. He looked so aggrieved.
“Harper told me to wash up, but after I finished washing up, Mommy and Daddy still didn’t come back.
“Harper also told me to change into cute pajamas, and that Mommy would hug and kiss me when she saw them, so i changed. But after I changed into my crocodile pajamas, Daddy and Mommy still didn’t come back.”
Louis spoke about the thing that saddened him most in a childish voice.
At that moment, Juliette deeply understood the sorrow conveyed by William Shakespeare’s quote, “Grief makes one hour
ten.”
To Louis, he was sad because neither of his parents came back despite his anticipation.
Juliette’s heart ached for Louis. She kept wiping the tears off his face.
“I’m sorry, honey. Mommy and Daddy were delayed because we ran into a little trouble. Were you waiting up for us?”
“No.” Louis pouted, wiped his tears, and said, “I was waiting up for Mommy.”
Juliette was lost for words.
Fortunately, Patrick, who was injured and unconscious, did not hear this.
“Dad used to go on business trips a lot. He often didn’t come home to sleep. I’m used to it.” Louis said.
Juliette felt sorry for Louis. Although he had lived a life of luxury since he was a child, he was always alone at home. She rubbed his head, making his hair a mess. Louis put his head under Juliette’s hand, so she could rub his head more easily.
His tears gradually stopped. He widened his eyes and asked, “But Mommy, didn’t you go out with Dad? What did Dad ask you to do? Why couldn’t you come back earlier?”
Juliette pursed her lips. It seemed that Louis still didn’t know that his father was injured. Maybe he was so focused on waiting for them to come home that he wasn’t even in the mood to watch the news?
Patrick’s injuries were too severe, and he had to be hospitalized for a while. There was no way to hide this from Louis, so Juliette decided to be honest with him.
“Well, he’s got a little problem. Just a small one. It’s nothing serious. He’s fine now, and his life isn’t in danger.”
Louis was a smart boy. Juliette gave him a heads–up, and he guessed at once that something might have happened to Patrick. To make her feel better, Louis nodded seriously, showing that he could handle it.

“So, your dad had a car accident and is in the hospital. The doctor said he’s doing okay, but he needs to stay for a while,” she said.
Feeling emotionally fragile, Louis felt like crying again. He realized he had misunderstood his father.
He had thought Patrick took Juliette out and wanted her all to himself, so she couldn’t come home early. In reality, Patrick had a car accident.
Louis climbed onto the sofa and stood next to Juliette. Suddenly, he looked much taller than her as she sat down.
Juliette looked at him in confusion, unsure of what he was about to do.
He gently placed his hand on her head, giving it a soft rub. Then, he guided her head to rest on his small shoulder.
“Mommy, it’s okay. Dad’s in the hospital, but I’ll take care of you from now on. If you feel sad, you can cry on my shoulder. I won’t tell anyone,” he whispered.
Juliette was at a loss for words. She felt warmth in her heart and a lump in her throat.
‘He’s being so sweet. I thought only girls would say that to their moms,‘ she thought. She had never felt so moved before.
His shoulder was too small for Juliette’s head, but she couldn’t resist nuzzling against it.
At the hospital, she reminded herself she was a grown–up. With Patrick unconscious, she had to stay calm and protect him. Relying on anyone else never even crossed her mind.
She never expected to find comfort in little Louis. In that moment, emotions overwhelmed her, and tears of gratitude. silently streamed down her face.
Juliette didn’t want her son to see her cry. She quickly wiped her tears away, turned her face, and rested her head on his shoulder.
Louis smelled so good. Even at four years old, he still had a faint, sweet scent, almost like a hint of milk.
His skin was so soft that just touching him filled her with a warm, fuzzy feeling, making her want to hold him even tighter. Then Louis began to stroke Juliette’s head, soothing her like a little man.
“Mommy, go to bed. I’ll wake you up in the morning, and we can go see Daddy at the hospital,” Louis said, trying to sound
mature.
Deep down, he was very worried about his father and wanted to see Patrick immediately. However, it was already past two in the morning, and Juliette had just come home, clearly exhausted from a long night.
Louis knew she needed rest, so he had to wait. Juliette, meanwhile, thought it was too late and Louis should be in bed.
Then she nodded, quietly wiped the tears from her eyes, and stood up. “Okay, let’s get some sleep and go to the hospital
tomorrow.”
She took Louis’s hand, led him off the sofa, and guided him upstairs.
Back in the room, he said, “Mommy, lie down. I’ll get you some water to wash your face. You’ve had a long night; you need
to rest.”
He didn’t mind skipping a face wash for a night, but he knew it was different for women. Missing a cleansing routine might affect their skin.

“It’s okay. I do it myself,” Juliette replied,
As she made her way to the bathroom, Louis stopped her. His serious expression left no room for refusal.
Finally, Juliette changed her clothes, lay down on the bed, and let him bring the water and clean her face with a towel.
He was so meticulous, serious, and gentle. As Juliette looked at him, his smile widened.
She was really easy to relax with such care, and drowsiness just attacked her. Before her face was cleaned, she fell asleep directly.

Seeing her asleep, Louis gently wiped the corners of her eyes, ears, and all the places where dirt tends to hide. Finally, he cleaned her fingers.
Once he was sure everything was clean, he gently placed the towel back in the basin and quietly put them away.
He thought to himself, “Women are really something. Even when they’re exhausted, they still make sure to wash up.” Louis felt pretty good about letting Juliette rest. Otherwise, she would’ve been totally wiped out.
