Everyone stayed up late that night, leaving them utterly exhausted, especially Beau. He felt like he’d just hit the pillow when a whimper woke him up.
For a moment, he was confused. It took him a while to remember he was in the ward. The whimpering was likely coming from Patrick. He quickly sat up and rushed to Patrick’s bed.
“Water…water…” Patrick whispered. In the dim light, his chapped lips showed he was clearly dehydrated.
“Oh, I’ll get you some water. Wait a minute.” Beau immediately went off to fetch water.
As soon as he returned, Patrick grabbed his hand with a grip that felt almost desperate.
“W–What are you doing?” Beau stammered, feeling that Patrick was being a bit too clingy.
“Can you sit up? I’ll help you drink so it doesn’t end up all over the blanket.” Beau made sure his tone and attitude reminded Patrick that he was Beau, not Juliette.
“Feed me,” Patrick said hoarsely. The dim light made it hard to see anything clearly.
Beau held the water in one hand and reached out to help Patrick with the other. But Patrick didn’t seem to want to get up. He just remained a dead weight, pressing down on Beau’s hand.
Failing to help him up, Beau mumbled, “You want water, right? Sit up.”
Patrick left Beau no choice but to set down the glass and use both hands to help him up. Patrick gasped; Beau must have touched his wound.
The pain made him frown, bringing him to his senses. His eyes opened, and the moment he saw it was Beau, he pushed him
away.
“Why are you here?” Patrick asked in a deep voice.
“I’ve always been here.” The force nearly sent Beau off the bed. He struggled to get back on his feet.
“You didn’t realize it was me? You were just asking for water, so I thought you were awake,” Beau added.
Patrick scanned the ward. He licked his chapped lips and asked in a deep voice, “Where is Juliette?”
“Louis is home alone. Juliette was worried and insisted on going back to check on him. She’s probably asleep with him now. I kept telling her to come back early and stay with you. I knew you’d be upset if you woke up and didn’t see her. But it’s four o’clock now, and she’s still not back. There’s nothing I can do.”
Beau, clueless as ever, didn’t realize his words were cutting right into Patrick’s heart.
He continued, “You’re seriously hurt. You just woke up after sleeping all night, and you’re still weak. Your wife isn’t coming back tonight. Drink some water and get more rest.”
“I’ve been out since I came back from the press conference? And now it’s four in the morning?” Patrick rasped.
Beau brought the glass to his lips, but he wasn’t having it.
“No, after they brought you to the hospital, you were in and out of the ICU. Good thing you’re tough and pulled through quickly,” Beau said.

Chapter 127
Patrick remained silent, a chill running down his spine. He knew it was silly to be jealous of his own son, but he couldn’t help it.

Louis wasn’t in any immediate danger, but he had just been rescued. Still, Juliette left him in the hospital to go home and be with Louis
Patrick had always hoped to find a loving mother for Louis. Now, she was truly good to the boy, even better than she was to Patrick. But deep down, he felt a pang of sadness.
“Water? If you don’t drink it, it’ll get cold.” Beau brought the glass closer. Patrick lay back silently, turning away from Beau.
Beau shook his head, thinking, ‘Did I say something wrong? If there’s a mistake, it’s Juliette’s, not mine.”
Even he knew Patrick would wake up in the middle of the night looking for Juliette, but still, she left.
“Hey, are you mad? Because your wife ditched you in the hospital to be with the kid? I’ve heard that once kids come into the picture, the dynamic changes. Moms tend to focus on the child, leaving not much room for the husband.
“Hey man, cheer up. Maybe, to your wife, you’re just the breadwinner. It might suck to feel like that, but at least you’re contributing to the family,” Beau said.
Patrick’s eyebrows twitched. “Would you please shut up?” His voice was cold and deep, laced with anger.
Beau was taken aback. He quickly covered his mouth, wondering, ‘Am I wrong about the role of men in marriage and family today?‘
He was just trying to encourage Patrick and didn’t see a problem with it. But he was really sleepy now and didn’t want to
argue.
Beau yawned and said, “Alright, I’m hitting the sack. I left some water by your bed. Drink it when you’ve cooled off.”
He took a couple of steps, then paused. “Oh, and don’t wait up for your wife. She won’t be back before dawn. Just get some sleep.
Patrick snapped, “Shut up!”
Beau was taken aback. He quickly clammed up, dashed back to bed, and fell asleep in no time.
It was dark and quiet. As Patrick closed his eyes, he heard his own breathing.
Juliette cared deeply for Louis. She went home to be with him, even though it was so late at night. This showed that he held a very important place in her heart. Patrick should feel happy about this, but he couldn’t.
Knowing that Juliette valued Louis more than him, even while he was seriously injured, filled him with deep sadness. He hated the feeling and found it hard to breathe.
Patrick spent half the night awake, staring out the window. As dawn broke and the sky brightened, the outside world gradually came to life with sound.
He expected Juliette to show up early, but by eight o’clock, when the doctor started making rounds, she still hadn’t arrived.
Then the doctor changed Patrick’s dressing. After breakfast, he lay in bed feeling the medicine take effect. His eyes grew heavy, and before he knew it, he was fast asleep.

Juliette had planned to get up early to visit Patrick and stay with him. He was just out of the ICU, and danger could strike again at any moment.
But when she woke up, it was already eight o’clock. Her phone was on silent, and the room was completely quiet.
Then Louis urged her to wash up and have breakfast, reminding her not to panic or rush. So it was already 9:30 when they arrived at the hospital.
Juliette pushed open the ward door and saw Madeline keeping watch by Patrick’s bed.
