Chapter 22
No one had bid this high before–the offer quadrupled in one go

Everyone’s eyes turned to the kid clutching the black cap and oversized mask. Some thought, ‘A kid this young with no legal capacity should stay outta this!
But then they noticed the adult watch the kid was fiddling with–worth millions!
In this crowd of high–rollers, they caught its six–zero tag, shutting their mouths instantly.
“Are kids these days so balling? Don’t worry, Juliette, I gotcha!” Daphne raised her paddle. “4 million dollars.”
In the realm of fragrance raw materials, sandalwood was exceedingly costly, but considering alternatives, a price of 4 million dollars was essentially its peak.
Evan, seeing th
that Daphne was bidding, felt reassured, knowing that she would certainly give it to Juliette as a wedding gift. But what use was the sandalwood to Juliette? In the end, it would still be given to his beloved Bianca.
Louis puffed out his cheeks, shouting, “5 million dollars.”
Daphne frowned, feeling that this kid was picking a fight with her. Just as she was about to bid again, Juliette tugged at her.
Immediately afterward, Juliette glanced at Finn beside her, who gave her a gentle smile and then raised his bidding paddle. “6 million dollars,”
‘For such a small piece of sandalwood to fetch a staggering 6 million dollars, everyone would think it couldn’t possibly get any higher.
“Even if the child had buckets of money, his family definitely wouldn’t let him spend more than 6 million to bid again, would they? Finn was brimming with confidence.
All around were sounds of amazement and admiration.
“My God, a piece of 6–million sandalwood, Mr. Montgomery just snapped it up instantly because that’s what Ms. Vaughn wanted. I’m so envious!”
These comments naturally reached Finn’s ears, and he wore a confident and gracious smile.
He grasped Juliette’s hand, comforting her, “Don’t worry, Juliette Since you want it, I’ll get it for you no matter what”
“Sure, you love me so much and want to marry me. It’s just a piece of sandalwood–of course, you’ll not disappoint me.” Juliette went to great lengths to flatter him.
However, it didn’t take long for Finn to lose his confidence.
That childish voice sounded again. “8 million dollars.”
Finn’s smile froze.
The venue plunged into extreme silence instantly.
Finn straightened up, eager to see who that kid intent on opposing him was,

Evan’s hands clenched into fists; he had lost the ability to bid beyond a million dollars.
70%
As the price reached 6 million, he believed the sandalwood would be Finn’s for the taking. But now, the price skyrocketed to & million.
It was not the 7 million that would be 1 million more than 6 milion but a direct leap to 8 million, a whole 2 million more!
A bead of sweat trickled down from Finn’s temple.
Not that he couldn’t afford more than 8 million. But in his estimation, a piece of sandalwood was worth at most 6 million And that price was for Bianca, not Juliette,
Once it went over 6 million, it was not worth it, and 8 million? That’d be way too much.
He was a businessman, and if something wasn’t worth it, it irked him to buy it.
But everyone was watching him. Juliette was watching him too.
He maintained his dignified smile, bidding, “8.5 million dollars” He didn’t believe that brat could possibly bid 10 million.
“10 million The boy’s voice chased right after Finn as if daring him to raise the price again.
It was clear that if Finn continued to bid, the boy wouldn’t hesitate to keep raising the price.
A flicker of anger crossed Finn’s eyes, while a smile still played on his lips, though not quite sincere.
Inwardly, he was already cursing, “Who gave their child the nerve to do something so reckless? Spending 10 million on a piece of sandalwood and openly offending the Montgomery family!
“Mr. Montgomery, would you like to raise the bid further?” the host inquired.
Unhurried, with a tranquil smile on his face, Finn calmly remarked, “This young lad keeps increasing the bid. Evidently, he has a strong need for this sandalwood. In that case, let him have it.”
His amiable smile, graceful words, and unwavering composure, despite missing out on something he cherished, once again earned him the admiration of those around him.
The host, after three confirmations, declared the sandalwood to belong to the boy.
Juliette, you’ve always been so soft–hearted, surely you won’t blame me for letting that kid have the sandalwood, right?
“That kid must have something very important for the sandalwood to keep bidding like that. Let’s try to understand his need to get it, okay?” Finn spoke softly to Juliette.
Juliette kept her smile, thinking, ‘So if I were to complain about Finn got bidding the sandalwood for me, would that make me cold–hearted?”
“If there’s anything you like next, just let me know, and I’ll definitely give it to you,” Finn added.
“I’ve been eyeing that piece of sandalwood for a long time. Since I can’t get it, I don’t want anything else,” Juliette replied.
Finn felt a pang of annoyance.
Juliette had been giving him a hard time tonight. Nevertheless, le still held her hand warmly and said with affection, “I’m sorry, I’ll arrange for someone to find equally good sandalwood in Sandinavia for you later.”

At that moment, the child who had won the sandalwood, pushing the heavy piece on a small cart, approached Juliette.
He still wore his hat and mask, revealing a pair of clean and clear eyes. Even with his face unseen, one could sense what a pretty child he was.
“Mrs. Vaughn, you saved my life before, and my father said that a life–saving grace calls for a reciprocal in full measure.

“Knowing you wanted the sandalwood, I’ve been waiting here early and prepared a sufficient amount of money to acquire it for you.
“Now, this piece of sandalwood belongs to you.” The little boy spoke in a babyish yet oddly mature manner, exceedingly sweet and cute.
Juliette was utterly charmed, her heart melting into a puddle.
Everyone around was utterly shocked. No one could have predicted that the intense rivalry between the kid and Finn was all for the same woman–Juliette,
“So, the ones who truly want to gift you something would discreetly spend their money to secure it for you, rather than loudly proclaiming their intentions only to back out due to the high price?”
“It seems that Mr. Montgomery doesn’t love Ms. Vaughn as deeply as this little kid does, at the very least.”
“The Montgomery family is one of the four great clans. Is it too much to give an engaged lady a 10–million–dollar gift? But Mr. Montgomery simply can’t bear to part with that 10 million. Turns out adult love is all about calculation, huh?

The murmurs incensed Finn to the point of fury, his hands tightening into fists at his sides, the gentle smile that perpetually adorned his face all but unraveled.
