“Juliette Vaughn!” A sharp voice cut through the air, calling her full name with hysterical force and absolute authority.

Juliette stopped in her tracks, slowly turning to face her mother seemed like she had to summon every ounce of strength in her body to make that movement.
“And what if I say no?” Juliette asked, her voice chillingly cold, enunciating each word carefully

Polly’s chest heaved as emotions boiled over within her. Though her voice wasn’t loud, it was piercing. “Are you trying to drive your own mother insane?”
With that, Polly suddenly grabbed a fruit knife from the coffee table and aimed it at her chest.
Bianca screamed, “Mom, what are you doing? Please, don’t scare me like this! If Juliette wants the sandalwood, she can keep it. I don’t want it. I just want you to be okay!”
Evan, who had gotten back on his feet, chimed in. “Juliette, you know Mom’s mental state is unstable, yet you keep pushing
her!
That sandalwood is useless in your hands, but it could bring so much value to Bianca!”
Seeing no reaction from Juliette, Evan pressed his lips together, softening his tone. “Juliette, five years ago, when you were gravely ill, nearly dying. Mom was so worried about you
“She only survived that time by treating Bianca as your stand–in Bianca became her emotional support.”
Evan paused, glancing at Polly’s trembling figure before continuing, “And it’s also because of you that Mom’s nerves broke down.
“Now, she’s threatening to take her own life–don’t you feel anything? Does Mom’s life mean less to you than a piece of sandalwood worth 10 million dollars?”
Five years ago, Juliette had indeed been sick–seriously sick.
Juliette remembered being forced to take a year off school at eighteen, only starting college at nineteen, and finally graduating at twenty–three.
But what happened during that year? Juliette’s memory of it was completely blank.
Everyone had told her it was normal–her illness had left her groggy and forgetful.
Juliette thought, ‘But is it really just an illness? If it were, then how did Louis come into the picture?
Is he really my child? And what has the Vaughn family done to me during that time
Is it true that Mom had only clung to Bianca as a replacement to keep her sanity when I was on the brink of death?
Evan spoke again, his voice low and persuasive. Juliette, you’re about to marry the man you’ve always loved. Finn loves you just as much. Hand over the sandalwood, calm Mom down, and make Bianca happy. We’re still a family, aren’t we?”

As if adding more weight to his words. Polly suddenly plunged the knife into her chest.
The faint sound of the blade piercing flesh echoed in the tense silence of the room, sharp and grating.
Polly wore a cream–colored dress, and the sight of crimson blood quickly seeping through the fabric was jarring.
“Mom” Evan and Bianca screamed in unison. Evan rushed forward, yanking the knife from Polly’s grasp.

Juliette, please!” Bianca cried, tears streaming down her face. “I’m begging you. Just give me the sandalwood. If it’ll make Mom better, I’ll do anything you want after this!”
Juliette watched them, her gaze cold and unyielding. And then, suddenly, she laughed.
Juliette replied. “If Mom’s injured, your first priority should be getting her to the hospital. What’s the point of talking about sandalwood? Can it magically heal her wounds?”
“Hurry up and call 911. At this rate, her wound might heal before the ambulance even arrives,” Juliette continued, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“You! Juliette, do you even have a heart?” Evan roared, his face flushed with fury as veins bulged at his temples.
Juliette scoffed, turning on her heel to leave.
“Juliette!” Evan’s voice thundered behind her. “If you take one step out of this house tonight, I’ll break your legs!”
Juliette ignored him and continued walking-
“Stop her!” Evan shouted at the top of his lungs.
The Vaughns family’s staff rushed forward, surrounding Juliette and blocking her path completely.
“I’m in a hurry. You’d better move,” Juliette said icily.
Patrick was passed out, leaving only Louis by his side. And Juliette was terrified her son might be scared or, worse, crying.
So Juliette needed to get there as quickly as possible to ease Louis’s fear.
But no one moved, and they continued to close in on her. Behind her, Evan was panting heavily in anger.
Meanwhile, Polly was slumped in Bianca’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
For a moment, Juliette felt a strange sense of detachment.
There was a saying: You’d understand when you were older.
But after having Louis, Juliette realized her parents truly didn’t love her.
“What are you waiting for? Grab her!” Evan barked again.
Juliette’s gaze swept over the group. A faint, mocking smile tugged at her lips before she strode back.
Evan froze for a moment, thinking she had finally submitted. Then he said arrogantly. “This is my house, Juliette.
“You have no say here. Do as we tell you, and soon enough, you marry into the Montgomery family.”

“Everyone, back off Juliette yelled at the staff, her patience completely gone. She was too worried about her son to waste any more time.
Evan struggled to breathe, his face turning pale.
The next moment, Juliette snatched the knife from his hand and pressed it to his waist. The sharp edge and the weight of her words left no room for defiance.
Terrified, Evan frantically ordered the staff to step
aside.
Juliette forced him to fetch a helmet and motorcycle keys from the entryway. Then, dragging him along, she made her way to the garage.
Soon, Juliette climbed onto Evan’s motorcycle, revved the engine, and sped off.
Driving a car would take too long, and Juliette couldn’t risk being stuck in traffic. Louis had already waited long enough.
Evan collapsed to the ground as fear drained from his body, leaving his legs weak,
At the Clarke residence, Patrick lay on the couch with a bowl of warm water nearby.
Louis wrung out a towel and placed it gently on Patrick’s forehead. “Does that feel better, Dad?” he asked.
Patrick stretched out his arms and legs, still pretending to be weak.
In reality, Patrick had a mild fever since noon, likely from last right’s cold dip, but fainting? That had been part of his plan.
Feigning this level of illness was the only way to get Juliette to come over. Staying at the Vaughn house was too dangerous for her, given her sleepwalking episodes.
Louis pressed Patrick’s limbs back down onto the couch and said seriously, “Dad, even if this is just a rehearsal, you should at least try to act like the Oscar winner you are.”
The phone call earlier had been staged by Patrick, who had calmy clipped Louis’s toenails while giving him instructions. Louis didn’t quite understand his father’s reasoning, but if it meant having Juliette stay over, he was all for it.
Suddenly, Patrick sat up, his expression alert. “I heard something
Then Patrick set Louis aside. “Stay here. Don’t move.”
Louis nodded obediently.
Outside, Patrick found people climbing over the walls, prying at the main gate, and even scaling trees. The noise was unmistakable.
Patrick approached the gate and flung it open. “Come on in,” he said coldly.
The dim lighting obscured the dangerous glint in his eyes. Patrick added, “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Patrick glanced at the approaching vehicle, one eyebrow raised. He thought, ‘Is the rider their leader, here to claim victory?
“If so, perfect timing. I can make it clear that I’m not just a skilled actor–I can also leave someone severely regretting their choices.‘
