Worshipped Novel 3
Chapter 34
Juliette’s voice was cool, almost detached as if she were discussing the weather.
Daphne, however, was anything but calm. “A paternity test? So your dad’s got an illegitimate kid out there?”
She grabbed Juliette’s hands, her fingers digging into her skin. “legitimate children can inherit now, you know. You need to protect the family’s assets–don’t let some outsiders take it all!
“And you’re getting married soon. You should ask your parents for more money–after everything they’ve put you through it’s the least they can do. You can use this test to pressure your dad into giving you what you deserve” Daphne added, her face flushed with anger.
Juliette stared at her, observing the way her expression shifted, the little tremors in her voice.
“Daphne,” Juliette interjected calmly, her voice cutting through the noise, “the paternity test is for me and a child”
Daphne blinked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Her lashes fluttered as if she couldn’t process what Juliette had said.
Her grip on Juliette’s wrists tightened without her realizing it.
“What? What do you mean?” Daphne whispered, her voice shaking.
She tried to steady her breath. “But… How could this be? How could you have a child?” Her voice was trembling now, disbelief creeping in.
Compared to her earlier outrage, her tone now was almost unnervingly calm, or perhaps.. simply incredulous.
Juliette took a deep breath. “I didn’t know either. But now the results are right in front of me. We’ll know for sure once I open them.”
Daphne grabbed her wrist, stopping her. “Juliette, please, you’re getting married to Finn.
“This is your dream, right? Don’t look at those results–what if it ruins everything?”
Her face paled. “If you don’t look, then the child doesn’t exist. It’ll be like it never happened.
“You can still marry Finn, and you’ll have the perfect life. Please don’t let this destroy your happiness.”
Tears pooled in Daphne’s eyes.
Juliette’s eyes softened, but her resolve didn’t waver. “If the child sn’t mine, I’ll have peace. But if he is, Daphne no child deserves to grow up without a mother.”
“But what if he is yours? That child could ruin everything! The Montgomery family would never allow you to bring a child into marriage! You’ve loved Finn for so long–are you really going to give him up?” Daphne’s voice cracked, desperation bleeding through her words.
Juliette smiled faintly, her hands cupping Daphne’s tear–streaked face. Her tone was steady but firm. Td rather keep my child than marry Finn. Don’t worry about my happiness; I won’t let it be destroyed.”
If she had suffered a lot, happiness was still within her grasp.
Chapter 31
And Louis, her son, was that happiness,
He didn’t require effort or will to love.
Her love for him was natural, instinctive.
Others, like Finn, demanded a love she could no longer give.
A person incapable of love finds it nearly impossible to attain happiness.
.
Daphne broke down in tears. Juliette opened the envelope and scanned the results line by line until her eyes rested on the
conclusion.
Maternal probability: 99.9999%.
Juliette stared at the result for a long time.
Louis was truly her son.
Her mind drifted back to when she first saw him–after she had ched and her spirit had wandered aimlessly.
“Well?” Daphne’s voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes flicking nervously between Juliette and the paper.
She was afraid of what she might find, but she couldn’t help asking. She wished more than anyone that Juliette didn’t have a child.
Without a child, Juliette could still go ahead with her plan, marry Finn, and get the happiness she’d always wanted.
But if there was a child, it would be a different story.
Sooner or later, Finn would find out about the child’s existence. The Montgomery family would never accept this child, especially with Finn being the heir.
Juliette handed her the results, her expression unreadable. “He’s mine,” she said simply. “Biologically mine.”
Daphne’s face went pale as she read the paper. “Wait–this can’t be right. How could you have a child?”
Juliette’s gaze locked onto hers. “Daphne. Do you know why?”
Daphne’s body tensed under Juliette’s stare, her eyes darting nervously.
It took a few seconds before she broke down, covering her face with her hands.
“What do we do now?” she sobbed. “You’re about to marry Finn! Why the hell do you have a kid now? What’s the plan?”
Juliette gently pulled Daphne’s hands away, wiping her tears. “You really don’t remember what happened five years ago? The
child is from that time.”
Daphne blinked. “Wait–you were sick. You were in the hospital. Your family wouldn’t let anyone visit. What happened that year? I never got to see you.”
Juliette gave a dry, humorless smile, the kind that didn’t reach her eyes.
Even she didn’t have all the answers–whether it had been intentional or an accident, she couldn’t say.
Chapter 34
Daphine slowly calmed down, her breathing steadying, “What are you going to do now? Finn won’t be able to accept th
Juliette looked at her. “You should be asking if I can still accept Fan
Daphne’s eyes were red, her voice tight. “What do you mean?”
“I’m calling off the wedding. Juliette said, her tone final.
Daphne was stunned.
Juliette’s gaze was cold. “But not now. It’ll happen on the wedding day,” she replied.
“Why, Juliette? You’ve loved him for years… Daphne said, her voice filled with confusion
“Because he’s been with Bianca,” Juliette said, her voice cold. “So ll make sure their lives are ruined on that day.”
Daphne’s face contorted with rage. That bastard! After everything you did for him, he betrays you like this? Doesn’t he remember who took care of him when he was hiding out, running for his life!
“And Bianca–she’s disgusting! Your family practically raised her, and she repays you by stealing your man? Juliette. I’m with you. Make them both pay!”
Juliette gave a small, knowing smile. “Don’t tell anyone yet, Juliette added, her voice low and serious. “Aside from my son. you’re the only one I trust with this, Daphne.”
Tears pricked at the corners of Daphne’s eyes as she embraced Juliette tightly. “Tll never turn my back on you. I’m with you. always.”
She knew exactly how Juliette had been treated in the Vaughn family. Her whole life, she had been forced to step aside for
Bianca.
But now Juliette was finally standing up for herself–and Daphne was glad for it. Juliette deserves to have the life she wanted, to be strong and beautiful, Daphne thought.
Juliette closed her eyes, her voice soft but resolute. “I know.”
After a half hour of composing themselves, Daphne suggested they go get something to eat, but Juliette’s mind was still in
the future.
“What about the child?” Daphne asked. “You’ll have to make arrangements after you call off the wedding, right? Otherwise, the Montgomery family will crucify you.”
Juliette nodded. “For now, he’ll stay with his father. We’ll figure it out after the wedding’s over
“Who’s the father, by the way?” Daphne asked though she hadn’t expected the name that followed.
Juliette responded quietly, “Patrick.”
Daphne almost swerved the car off the road.
“Patrick? Are you serious? How the hell did he have a kid? There’s been no rumors, no whispers… Are you sure you make a mistake?” Daphne was stunned.
“But wait,” Daphne gasped. “Didn’t he just hit the headlines with Bianca this morning? What the hell is going on?”
