Chapter 36
The arrogance of adults found its mirror in Belle’s demeanor.
She stood tall, hands on her hips, pointing a finger squarely at Louis.

Louis, his small face stoic and eyes sharp with indignation glared back. “What do you mean? I don’t have a mom? What, do you think I just appeared out of thin air?”
Belle’s cheeks flushed red with fury. After a moment of sputtering, she finally burst out, “That’s exactly it! You don’t have a mom! I’ve never seen anyone pick you up or drop you off! These cookies weren’t made by your mom–probably store- bought! Prove me wrong–call her here!”
Her words fired off like bullets, and she wasn’t done. “You’re shameless! You just bought those cookies to win first place.”
Louis‘ fists clenched at his sides, his clear, striking eyes burning with anger.
Belle crossed her arms. “I’m serious. Bring your mom here, or I’ll tell everyone your cookies are fake!”
Belle had always admired Louis‘ good looks, but his coldness toward her had only stoked her determination to make him. yield this time.
Louis‘ voice was icy. “Just because your mom can’t bake cookies like these, you’re saying mine are store–bought? Stop insulting my mom!”
Patrick’s words echoed in his mind, “Your mom is someone else’s fiancée right now. You can’t reveal your connection to her.”
Louis resolved firmly.
‘No matter what, I won’t call her. But I have a mom. I’m not like Belle says,‘ he thought.
Belle stomped her foot, her temper flaring. “Your mom couldn’t make cookies like these! You don’t even have a mom. You’re just a liar–abandoned and pathetic!”
Her accusations grew louder, and finally, she lunged at Louis, her hands clawing at his face.
Luckily, the teacher stepped in just in time, pulling them apart.
Belle puffed up with indignation. “I demand you bring his mom here right now! Otherwise, those cookies aren’t his!”
As the beloved daughter of the Montgomery family, Belle was the kind of child no one dared defy.
Even the staff trod carefully around her, knowing her every whim carried weight.
With Belle causing such a scene, the staff immediately tried to downplay the situation, hoping to minimize the conflict.
A teacher tried to defuse the tension. “Belle, we’ve tasted all the cookies. Yours are the best–looking and the tastiest. Why don’t we give you first place?”
Belle tilted her chin up. “It should’ve been mine from the start!” She smirked to herself, thinking, ‘Of course, my mom hired the best pastry chef. There’s no way Louis could beat me!‘
She pointed at Louis again. “And he needs to apologize! He cheated and almost stole my first place.”

One staff member crouched beside Louis, speaking softly. “Louis, I know your cookies are delicious, but Belle’s just a little girl. If she doesn’t win, she might cry. Can’t we let her have first place?”
Louis looked up, his chest heaving with emotion. “She said I cheated. I didn’t. These cookies weren’t store–bought. My family made them together!”
He thought bitterly, ‘Mom helped make these cookies. The honor of winning first place belongs to her too. I won’t let anyone take that away!‘
But the staff continued their pleas, eventually resorting to veiled threats. “If you don’t cooperate, no one will like you.
“You might not be allowed to join activities like this anymore. You could even get expelled.”
Louis‘ small chest rose and fell, his lips pressed tightly together.
Belle demanded an apology.
The staff pressed him to comply.
But Louis stood firm, biting his lip and holding his ground.
In the end, the staff had no choice but to handle the matter, knowing that if it wasn’t resolved, they’d be held accountable by the Montgomery family.
They decided to call Louis‘ parents to have them admit fault and apologize.
They tried his emergency contact, Stuart, but he was in a meeting and missed the call.
“Louis,” one staff member said, “you claim your mom made the cookies. What’s her number?”
Louis hesitated. He didn’t want to give them Juliette’s number.
“If you don’t share it,” the staff member said, “we’ll have to assume you bought the cookies.”
Trapped, Louis finally mumbled Juliette’s number.
Meanwhile, Belle slyly pulled out her phone and called her uncle Finn. ‘Uncle loves me the most. He’ll make sure Louis pays!‘ she thought.
Finn had just finished with a client when he received Belle’s call
Finn, not far from preschool, immediately instructed his driver to head there.
He adored Belle and saw her as a sweet, albeit mischievous, little girl.
If she was upset, it had to be someone else’s fault.
When Finn arrived, his imposing presence silenced the room.

“Mr. Montgomery, what brings you here in person?” The staff were both surprised and pleased, but there was also a hint of nervousness in their voices.
Finn was the heir to the Montgomery family–wealthy, capable, and undeniably handsome.
The staff, clearly nervous, said, “We’re trying to get Louis to admit his mistake and apologize to Belle. We really hate bothering you.”
Finn smiled kindly, but his authoritative air remained. “Oh? Let me have a word with him.”
Louis was brought forward.
Louis was brought forward. The staff said, “This is Mr. Montgomery. If you apologize now, he’ll let it go. But if you refuse, he might get upset.”
Louis stared up at Finn, recognizing him immediately as Juliette’s fiancé.
Anger flared in his eyes, cold and piercing.
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I won’t apologize,” Louis said firmly
Finn’s voice was calm but firm. “The teachers said you were supposed to bake cookies with your family and bring them to school. But you bought yours instead and still tried to compete. Isn’t that wrong? Good kids admit their mistakes. Don’t you want to be a good kid?”
Louis straightened his small frame. “My cookies weren’t bought. made them with my family.”
But doubt gnawed at him. ‘If Mom comes… will she side with her fiancé and not help me?
‘Will I cause her trouble if I insist she defends me?‘
He bit his lip, wavering. ‘Maybe I should just admit it and end this,‘ he thought.
But just then, Juliette appeared at the doorway. “Louis, what’s going on here?”
