Chapter 74

With a loud thud, the knife in Juliette’s hand grazed past Patrick’s ear and struck the wooden headboard beside him.

It wasn’t loud, but rather low.

The cut wasn’t deep, but the voice–activated light in the hallway came on again.

Patrick saw her bend over and take a moth from under the knife.

Patrick felt speechless.

Juliette walked out of Louis’s room with the knife in one hand and the moth in the other.

Patrick didn’t know what to make of the situation.

He briefly comforted Louis and followed Juliette.

The hallway, spiral staircase, living room, dining room, and kitchen were all dimly lit.

Juliette walked through these areas and arrived at the kitchen. It was rather dark without the lights on, but she accurately placed the knife back into the knife rack.

Then she threw the moth into the trash can, found a disinfectant wipe, and cleaned her fingers.

Then she walked back to the bedroom, got into bed, and went to sleep.

Of course, she didn’t cover herself with the quilt because she was afraid of the heat.

Patrick thought, ‘So, did she leave the room like this just now, go to the kitchen to get a knife, and then go to Louis’s room?

‘But how did she know there would be a moth in Louis’s room?

‘Besides, there’s no need for a knife to kill a moth

Patrick frowned, the questions in his mind naturally could not be answered.

He gently stepped forward and covered her with the thin quilt before returning to Louis’s room.

He shrank under the quilt and only revealed his small head. He turned on all the lights in the room, illuminating the room and his lake–like clear eyes.

“Are you scared?” Patrick walked over, sat down beside his bed, and rubbed his head.

“Mommy just came over in the middle of the night to kill moths for you. Are you afraid of your mommy?” Patrick asked.

Louis bit his lip.

He didn’t want to be afraid of his mommy, but he was scared by the situation.

Patrick said, “Remember, your mommy would never hurt you on purpose. She was worried that a bad guy might come and hurt you at night after what happened today, so she came to your room to check with a knife.

“Luckily, there was no bad guy in your room, but there was a moth. She happened to have a knife in her hand, and she didn’t want to get her hands dirty, so she used the knife to swat the moth. Got it?”

Chapter 74

As Patrick spoke, he almost started to believe it himself.

He felt that Juliette must have been affected by what had happened during the day and was worried that there was a bad guy in Louis’s room.

Moreover, Juliette had always been a clean freak. She was even wearing gloves when she went to places like Golden Breeze,

Louis nodded vigorously.

Patrick pulled the blanket down a little and motioned for him to lie down and sleep, and Louis obediently did so.

Finally, Patrick touched his head and said in a gentle tone but with a serious expression, “She’s your mommy. Don’t be afraid of her.”

Louis didn’t say anything.

He felt that his dad seemed to be using the gentlest tone to issue the strictest order.

Waking up in the morning, Juliette was surprised to find that she had slept well.

She felt that maybe it was because she had a good dream last night.

She dreamed that the reporters from yesterday swooped down on Louis like hornets.

She took a torch and, with a few puffs, wiped out the hornets.

Louis was safe, so she put out the torch and went to sleep with peace of mind.

It had been a long time since she had such a good rest.

When she was living with the Vaughn family, she only slept when it was absolutely nessesary.

She felt disgusted constantly when she was staying in that household.

Last night, however, she had been ravaged by Patrick and barely got any sleep.

She received a call from Daphne while on the toilet. “Today we’re selecting the production team for the first film. What time are you arriving?”

Juliette checked the time. “Ten o’clock.”

Over the past month, she had purchased a building in an industrial park and registered her company.

Thinking about going to the company, Juliette deliberately chose something more professional when choosing her clothes. She wore a loose gray sweater on top and white wide–leg suit pants below, which made her look very slender.

Patrick glanced at her, his eyes lingering on her for a moment because of her different attire than usual. It was also because he wanted to see her expression to see if she remembered her behavior last night.

“Are you going out today?” Patrick asked. She looked like she did not remember her sleepwalking last night.

She answered, “Well, I need to get started with the movie for the company. I have to go and take a look.”

Chapter 74

Just then, Louis called from the kitchen, “Mommy, I’ve prepared breakfast for you. Come and try it.”

“You prepared it for me yourself? Thank you, sweetie.” Juliette went over and kissed him on the cheek.

Louis brought up the breakfast he had prepared. It was specially kept at room temperature.

There was eggs, steak, milk, and so on.

Juliette asked, “Did you really make all this for me yourself? You’re so young, is your dad okay with you doing this yourself?”

Patrick happened to walk into the dining room.

Juliette gave him a reproachful look.

Patrick said, “He said that this is the only way he can express his deep love for you.”

Juliette cupped Louis’s face and kissed him again. “Sweetie, Mommy loves you even if you don’t do anything. Don’t take any risks next time. Wait until you grow up before you make breakfast for Mommy again.”

“Mommy, I am very capable, I am not taking any risks at all,” Louis said happily.

He prepared breakfast for Juliette this morning because he wanted to show her that he wasn’t scared by what she did last night.

He still loved her very much.

After breakfast, Patrick offered to take Juliette to work.

Juliette smiled and said, “Isn’t Henry worried that you would cause unnecessary trouble if you went out? If you take me to the company, we will both be in danger. You should just stay home and take care of Louis.”

After she finished speaking, Juliette realized that this was something that usually a husband would say to his wife.

It felt somewhat belittling of Patrick’s worth.

Juliette then said, “What I mean is, this is not a good time. We have plenty of time to do it in the future.”

The corner of Patrick’s mouth lifted into a smile. “Yes, we have plenty of time.”

Juliette didn’t know why, but she always felt that the way he said those words was strange, as if he deliberately dragged out the tone on a particular word.

Juliette drove herself to the company. After getting out of the car, she saw a hottie from the company next door who was holding a sandwich in one hand and a garbage bag in the other while walking towards the trash can.

She was pretty and sexy even though she was not all dolled up.

Juliette thought, ‘If only we could poach her!‘

As Juliette was checking out the beautiful woman, she was also checking her out.

“It’s you?” Just as Juliette was about to step up the stairs, the beauty spoke up. She threw away the garbage, swallowed the sandwich, and ran over to grab Juliette’s arm.
