“What are you talking about? Juliette has never touched it. How could that be?” Daphne shot back.
Seeing Juliette looking pale and upset, she believed Thora was trying to get under her skin.
“Annoyed, Daphne shoved Thora, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite this, Thora simply bit her lip and remained
silent.
Juliette’s pain was evident. If staying silent could offer her any relief, Thora would hold her tongue.
Thora was heartbroken. She never imagined that the brave and heroic Juliette, who had saved her and the other four girls from a fire five years ago, would end up like this.

Realizing that Juliette wasn’t mad at her, Thora struggled to her feet. “I’m alright. I can get up myself.”
Daphne snorted, turning her head away in anger. Juliette motioned for Thora to come closer, and Thora glanced at Daphne
unsure.
“She won’t hurt you while I’m here. She’s just concerned for me and means no harm,” Juliette said.
Hearing this, Thora moved closer to her.
Juliette asked, “Who did I shoot?”
“The big boss of that trafficking bunch,” Thora replied.
Juliette gasped, wondering if the lead had died with him. Not willing to give up, she pressed on, “Anyone else in that bunch?”
“I heard there are three big shots in their gang. You took out the top dog. After that, the other two high–tailed it. The cops have been after them for five years, but no luck. And the third one is a woman.”
“Oh,” Juliette grunted. ‘So, there are still others out there. That means I can keep digging,‘ she thought.
Finding someone the police couldn’t catch would be a tough job. But that didn’t daunt her; she would comb every inch of the city if she had to.
She realized another crucial detail. Thora said Juliette took down a bad guy, but Polly’s words didn’t match–Polly called her an evil daughter.

Thora’s words had just cleared Juliette’s name. She had rescued those girls and taken down the kingpin of the human traffickers.

Juliette’s voice was gentle and sincere. “Thank you. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll need your help.”

Thora’s eyes briefly sparkled before losing their shine. “Okay, thank you, Juliette,” she said with a sweet, sultry smile as she turned and walked away.
As soon as she was out of the door, Daphne scoffed, “See? She got what she wanted. You promised her a role. How can you trust anything she says? She’d sell her body for money.”
Juliette smiled faintly. “Someone has to be a double. If it weren’t her, it would be someone else. Everyone wants to get ahead and have a good life. What’s so wrong with that?”

“She was telling the truth.” To clear up any misunderstandings Daphne might have had about Thora, Juliette took a moment to share the whole story.

Daphne stuck out her tongue. “Alright, I get it. I was wrong. Next time, I’ll make sure to know the full story before I say anything, okay?”
After a pause, she went on, “So, about what happened five years ago, how do we dig into that? The top dog’s dead, and we can’t find the rest.”
“I’ll figure it out. I’ll track them down and get to the bottom of this,” she said, a determined, icy glint flickering in her eyes. Nothing could stop her.
Just then, the receptionist knocked on the door and said, “Ms. Vaughn, Mr. Evan Vaughn asked to see you. Shall I let him in?”
“Throw him out. Whatever it takes, just don’t let him in. Get as many guards as you need until he’s too scared to come back,” Juliette demanded.
