Chapter 99
Juliette and Patrick took Louis home.
Back at home, Patrick said, “Let me see what we will have for dinner.”
“Dad, Mommy and I have eaten. We’re so full.” Louis patted his little belly, his face full of satisfaction.
“That nasty man even cut our steaks for us.”

Louis said this to let his father know that they treated Finn like a servant, and Finn hadn’t gotten any benefit from him or Juliette.
But when those words fell into Patrick’s ears, they meant something else.
On Christmas Eve, his wife and child had dinner with Finn, and Finn cut the steaks for them.
Anyone who saw them would have thought they were a harmonious family of three.
Patrick felt upset. He looked at Juliette. “Did you eat it?”
Juliette felt a little guilty. It seemed that she and Louis had eaten dinner together without Patrick. Patrick appeared so pitiful.
After a while, Juliette stammered out, “Their steak is very tender
In other words, it would be a waste of food not to eat it.
Patrick’s deep gaze lingered on her face for a moment. “Oh, so it was quite tender.”
He wondered if the steak had perhaps tasted better because a special person cut it. Hence, she couldn’t resist eating so much.
After Patrick said that coldly, he turned around and went upstairs.
As for Juliette and Louis, he left them in the living room.
Juliette and Louis looked at each other.
Louis said, “Daddy seems angry.”
“Why would you say that?” Juliette said, “Your father is gentle and magnanimous.”
Louis’s eyes widened. He thought Juliette was being sarcastic.
“Daddy is angry.” Louis emphasized, “But it doesn’t matter. I’ll never be angry with Mommy, especially when Mommy is hurt. I’ll get the first aid kit and treat your wound, Mommy.”
Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Patrick remembered that Juliette was injured. He turned around to go downstairs. As he reached the turn of the stairs, he heard what Louis said from above.
The corner of Patrick’s mouth twitched violently.
He thought, ‘Well, Louis can treat her wound, so I don’t need to bother.‘

Patrick turned and went back upstairs.
Louis ran to get the first aid kit. Then he pulled Juliette to sit on the sofa.

He put the first aid kit on the coffee table. First, he disinfected Juliette’s wound with a cotton pad, then applied medicine and bandaged it.
Juliette’s palm bore a scar that looked like it had been cut by a sharp shard of glass, about 1.5 inches long.
Juliette was surprised that Louis was so adept at doing these things.
She asked, “Have you been injured a lot before? Or was it your dad who was often injured before?”
She wondered what Louis’s life had been like without her as his mother.
Thinking about how the Reed family bullied him and his experiences in the kindergarten, Juliette’s heart ached.
“I haven’t been injured, but Dad said I had to learn how to treat wounds in case of emergency. Fortunately, I listened to Dad and studied hard, so I could help you treat your wound today.”
As Louis spoke, he looked up at her and smiled, revealing his little teeth. He looked tender and chubby with his cheeks puffed out.
Juliette’s heart softened. She scooped up Louis and cuddled him
Louis suggested, “Mommy, shall we watch the Christmas carols together?”
“Okay,” Juliette replied.
Juliette turned on the TV just as the Christmas carols reached their peak. Lively singing could be heard.
The quiet living room immediately became lively.
The wind and snow outside carried a biting chill. But inside the house, Juliette and Louis happily watched the Christmas carols, chatting and laughing from time to time.
After Louis fell asleep in Juliette’s arms, Juliette carried him back to his room.
She laid him on the bed and kissed his little forehead before tucking him in. The snowflakes were still falling when she looked out the window. Drawing the curtains, she left Louis’s room.
Patrick was not in the master bedroom, nor was he in the study.
This surprised Juliette. She wondered where he went.
She thought, ‘He couldn’t be in the second bedroom, could he?‘
Although Juliette felt it was impossible, she had already checked the other rooms, so she tried the door of the second bedroom only to find it locked.
Juliette asked, “Patrick, are you in there?”
About three seconds later, Patrick’s voice was heard. “What’s the matter?”

Juliette thought for a moment and said, “Does talking to you count as something?”
Juliette waited outside the door for three minutes. She thought Patrick wouldn’t talk to her.
But the door opened at this moment.
“Is Louis asleep?” Patrick asked

Juliette could hear the slight hoarseness in his voice. It was a subtle rasp as if he had a cold. She also detected the scent of a different kind of medicine.
He was hiding in the second bedroom. She wondered if he was injured and tending to his wounds.
“Yes, he’s asleep.” Juliette gave Patrick a bright smile. She leaned closer and grabbed his collar with her beautiful tanned hands, her touch full of flirtation. “Shall we… go to sleep too?”
At this moment, Patrick looked incredibly abstinent, completely unmoved by Juliette’s beauty and charm.
“I have a script to study tonight. You go to bed first.”
“No, Christmas is just a few minutes away. I want you to celebrate Christmas with me. How else can we call ourselves husband and wife if we don’t?”
Patrick pursed his lips but finally took her hand and led her to the bedroom.
“How do you want to spend the last few minutes?” Patrick asked, his voice laced with forbearance.
Juliette pulled him onto the bed. Then she snuggled into his arms.
Like a little temptress, she tugged at his clothes.
“Let’s do something fun that couples do, something that will make us happy from this night to the next morning. It’ll be two whole days of happiness. What do you think?”
Patrick grabbed her hands, stopping them from moving, but his face was pale, and beads of sweat dripped from his forehead.
Juliette stared at him.
Patrick understood. She had sensed that he was hurt, so she had deliberately done this to make him tell her what had happened.
Patrick met her gaze. They stared at each other for almost ten seconds.

“I’m hurt, but it’s not serious. I’ve already applied medicine. It’ll be fine in two days.”
“If it’s not serious, why didn’t you
tell me and Louis? How did you escape from Finn’s men?”
“It’s not serious; there’s no need to know. Go to sleep.”
Patrick’s long eyelashes cast shadows on his eyelids as he closed his eyes. Suddenly, he opened his eyes again, got out of bed, and retrieved the medicine.

Juliette knew it was medicine for her sleepwalking, though she didn’t know if it was true or not.
Now, she propped herself up on her elbows and looked at Patrick “Show me your wounds.”

Patrick frowned, displeasure etched between his brows. “Why do you have to see them? Do you want to know how ruthless Finn’s men are, or how powerful Finn is?”
Patrick couldn’t bring himself to say the latter part of his words, which was, “In your heart, do you think I can’t deal with him?”
