Chapter 5
Why did the woman who loved him so desperately suddenly ask for a divorce?
And why–why did he force alcohol down his pregnant wife’s throat, all for a mere secretary?
Guilt crushed his chest, making it hard to breathe.
When the operating room lights dimmed, I was transferred to the ward.
Greyson followed closely behind.
At the same time, my lawyer arrived, holding the divorce agreement.
I lay on the hospital bed, unconscious from the anesthesia.
Greyson took the agreement in his trembling hands, his entire body shaking.
“She wants to divorce me?”
“What kind of joke is this? She has no right to leave me!”
“No. It’s impossible. She won’t leave me. She can’t leave me!”
A tear slid down his face.
I slowly opened my eyes.
Without sparing him a glance, I stared at the stark white ceiling.
“Greyson, let’s divorce.”
“Let me go. And set yourself free.”
“I know you love Daina. I’ll grant you your wish. But every penny that belongs to me–I won’t leave
without it.”
“The agreement is ready. I’ve accounted for all the jewelry you gave Daina over the past five years. I won’t take advantage of you. If you don’t believe me, we can go to court.”
A storm of emotions surged in Greyson’s eyes.

Chapter 5
He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Sutton grabbed his arm and dragged him out.
“Why are you pulling me back? Didn’t you hear? She wants a divorce!”
“I heard. So what? What do you plan to say if you stay in there?”
“That you never betrayed her? That you never fell out of love? Or that the three miscarriages weren’t your fault, that you weren’t the one who forced her to drink this time either?”
Greyson swayed unsteadily, barely able to stand.
After a long silence, he took out a cigarette, but his hands trembled so much that he couldn’t even light it.
Sutton sighed deeply, furious at his friend’s cowardice.
“Greyson, I’ve already told you everything. You’ve let Emma down for five years–haven’t you done enough? All she wants now is to take back what’s rightfully hers. What right do you have to fight her
for it?”
“Yes, I’m your brother, but more importantly, I’m an outsider. I’ve seen everything clearly over the years. Let me tell you this: without Emma, there would be no Greyson today.”
“You succeeded in business, and at least eighty percent of that success is because of her. But did she ever complain? Did she ever ask for a single cent? Do you really think those business partners chose you for your talent?”
“It was Emma who built those connections, step by step, behind your back!”
“She’s been taking stomach medicine for years–stomach ulcers, perforations, those are the least of it! She hid it from you because she didn’t want you to worry, but now, look at yourself! You don’t
deserve her!”
The relentless accusations nearly shattered his sanity.
Greyson leaned against the wall, disheveled, refusing to believe his own ears.
So, his smooth–sailing career wasn’t because of his own brilliance.
It was because his wife loved him enough to sacrifice everything for him.
And yet, once he succeeded, he chose to betray her.
Guilt and regret crushed him, making it hard to breathe.

Chapter 5
He held the abortion records in his hand, the paper feeling heavier than a thousand pounds.
Seeing that he had finally woken up, Sutton said nothing more.
He left the hospital room with a final word of advice.
Greyson’s trembling fingers opened our chat history.
But all he saw were messages from me–one–sided concern, one–sided affection.
“Are you coming home tonight? Don’t drink too much at the banquet.”
“I made your favorite ribs. Come back and try them?”
“I want to buy you a tie. Can you come with me to pick one out?”
“I have good news to tell you. Come home early tonight.”
And him?
He never replied. Not even once.
For the first time in five years, Greyson felt utterly worthless.
But the cold, hard truth was right in front of him.
He could no longer deny it.
Just then, Daina sent a message, her tone filled with coquettish affection.
“Mr.Corbyn, my foot hurts so much… Is Emma okay? It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t toasted her, none of this would’ve happened.”
“Has she woken up yet? Once I can walk again, I’ll go and apologize. Please don’t argue with her because of me, okay?”
“If she blames me, don’t defend me. As long as you two can reconcile, I’m willing to endure any hardship…”
The same sweet words as always.
But this time, for the first time, Greyson felt disgusted.

He didn’t reply. Instead, he deleted Daina’s messages.
Then, he walked back into the hospital room.
