Chapter 6
He poured me a glass of water. Peeled some fruit for me.
The lawyer had already left, leaving the divorce papers on the table.
Waiting for his signature.
I glanced at his constantly vibrating phone and sneered.
“Not answering? Your little lover is probably getting anxious.”
His hand paused mid–motion.
A wounded expression flickered across his face.
“Emma, do we really have to talk like this?”
“I know you’ve been hurt this time. I know I was wrong. But we’ve been together for seven years–can’t you give me a chance to make it up to you?”
“The baby is gone, but we can adopt. I promise I’ll be a good father, I-”
I cut him off with a cold laugh.
“Greyson, don’t disgust me.”
“A good father? You? Are you even worthy?”
“If there really is a God in this world, a man like you would go straight to hell.”
Before I could say more, Daina entered the room, her face full of pitiful tears.
Before I could speak, Greyson snapped.
“Didn’t anyone teach you to knock before entering? Get out!”
Tears spilled down Daina’s cheeks as she sobbed uncontrollably.
“Mr.Corbyn, I know I was wrong. I didn’t come here for anything else—just to check on Emma. Please don’t misunderstand…”

“Since you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave.”
She had been in the company for five years. She knew full well that I was Greyson’s wife,
Yet she always called me “Emma.”
Because deep down, she believed she was the real Mrs. Corbyn.
That the title of “boss’s wife should belong to her.
And Greyson had never corrected her.
With Daina leading the way, the company employees followed suit.
No one ever called me “Madam Corbyn” or “boss.”
I used to let it slide.
But now, seeing the truth so clearly, I realized she had never even tried to hide her ambitions.
She had flaunted them, openly and shamelessly.
Daina whimpered, limping out the door.
Almost tripping on the way.
But this time, Greyson didn’t chase after her.
I saw it all and couldn’t help but mock him.
“Not going after her?”
“You spent so much money keeping your mistress happy. Don’t let me ruin things between you two.”
“Go after her. I’m just a patient. I won’t be going anywhere.”
Crushed by guilt, Greyson spoke in a voice barely above a whisper.
“Emma, I truly know I was wrong. We’ve been together so long–can’t you give me a chance to make amends? I swear, I’ll make things right!”
“You know that in five years of marriage, I’ve never really let you down. I just…”
I laughed, but there was no warmth in it.

“You just made the same mistake all men make.”
“You couldn’t resist temptation.”
“It’s over, Greyson. You’re tainted. You’ll never be clean again.”
“In our five years of marriage, there were too many interludes of Daina–so many that I often couldn’t tell whether the real outsider was her or me. You indulged her as she trampled all over me, tolerated everything she did, and let her mock me in public. There’s no going back for us.”
Greyson shut his eyes in despair, yet his tone remained resolute.
“No matter what, I will handle this. From now on, Daina will no longer be an obstacle between us.”
With that, he turned and left the hospital room without a backward glance.
I took out my phone.
And booked a flight abroad for a week later.
A man’s lies are nothing more than a fleeting attempt to ease his guilt.
But my own skills and capabilities–those are the only things I can rely on for a secure future.
I will never again place my hopes in him.
The only person I can depend on is myself.
Greyson walked briskly.
Daina, on the other hand, deliberately slowed her pace.
The two of them met at the hospital entrance.
Daina threw herself into his arms, crying.
“I knew it–I knew you wouldn’t leave me.”
“Since Emma already found out about us, why don’t you just divorce her?”
“The company is in your name anyway. I’ll be by your side, and we’ll build a future together. Without her, you’ll only do better!”
Faced with her sickly sweet words, Greyson’s expression remained ice–cold.

He forcefully shoved her arm away.
“You’re mistaken. I never planned on getting a divorce.”
“Nor will I ever give up Emma to marry you.”
“I came today only to make things clear–you and I don’t need to keep in touch anymore.”
“There’s no need for you to come to the company either. You’re still young; you’ll find a better job.”
Daina’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“What did you say?”
“You want to leave me?”
“Did Emma say something to you? Are you abandoning me for her?”
“She did all this today just to drive a wedge between us! I already apologized and raised a toast to her–you saw it yourself! She’s the one who refuses to let me off!”
As she spoke, she lunged into Greyson’s arms again.
But he stepped back swiftly and pushed her to the ground.
